Going back into the arena?

ѕтαяк Was anyone surprised that Katniss had to go back into the arena for the quarter quell? I mean seriously? Everything is exactly like the first book! I think that this made the book tasteless and repetitive, and if this book is gonna be so much like the first one, she might as well just not write it, because in my opinion the first book was amazing and original, This book was okay (it had some good aspects) and mocking-jay lacked. I just wanted to ask of your opinion on this to see if I am the only one that feels this way.

Ruth I thought thEy were equal

Isabella Even though I didn't like Catching Fire more than The Hunger Games, I do think it was good that she had to do that. As well, it showed normal life outside the games.

I think that the point of having to go back into the arena was to show that President Snow still had power over her. That she never really escaped the games. It showed, I guess, how the government kinda went back on their promise of the victors being safe. It also featured past tributes.

I don't mean to be rude by this, but just because it seems to have a theme that is similar to the first one, doesn't meant that it's en exact copy. It has underlying themes.

KC Jacobsen I liked it, but I had a lot of trouble getting in to it in the beginning!

I agree. I liked Catching Fire better than the first. I thought Mockingjay was a complete bust though.

Jeni I felt like SC wrote one book which was initially the Hunger Games and Mockingjay as a complete novel. When she sold the book, the publishers wanted to split the book in two and then ultimately asked for a fill to get a three book deal out of it.

I liked the games in Catching Fire better, but that's about it. I felt like it was a filler book between the original story.

Just my opinion, though. I have no evidence to support that. :)

Vee Gretzinger i thought it was stupid. it was like a repeat of the first book. i think collins was trying to hard to make this a trilogy and she just used catching fire as a filler. like, honestly, we didn't need it.

VIVI GARCIA They were both awesome thats I'll im saying. :D :D

That's a good theory. It would explain A Lot about the terrible editing in Mockingjay, and those hasty scenes with Finnick' s death etc. I think Catching Fire was too much of an already good story and the rebellion could have happened without it.

Julia I was beginning to read the book, and I actually didn't know that she'll be going into the arena. But then I read something- maybe it was someone's review and it was just written there. And yes, my thought was that Collins is just recycling the material. But then, it was just as exciting as the Hunger Games. At least for me.
