Ian Stewart (goodreadercomIanStewart) | 9 comments I have been adding to my books (i.e. the books I have written) with the addition of recently published Kindle editions of some old works (which are out of print and hard to find).

I would greatly appreciate help in bringing some order to the lists of my books on my main page – under my profile and blog – and on the author dashboard.

I successfully uploaded a book cover for the old paperback edition of The Seizing Of Singapore, which was listed under “Ian Stewart’s Books” but the new Kindle edition is not there, although I reported its publication under the Action-Adventure thread in Authors/Readers (and Aussie Readers) and its details are displayed in Goodreads if you click on the cover.

Also, I attempted to add the Kindle edition of Nanyang but Goodreads couldn’t find it and when I put in the ASIN, I was told this was the ASIN for another Nanyang (which it did not show). Weird!

I also attempted to add the hardcover edition of Reunion – ISBN 0 9588058 0 6 – which I have now published as a Kindle book but Goodreads could not find it. The cover is the same for both editions.

If possible, I would like the list under “Ian Stewart’s Books” to be in the following order, with Nanyang, which I consider my major work, at the top.

Nanyang, paperback; Nanyang, Kindle edition; The Unintentional Jihadi, for which there is only a Kindle edition; Reunion, Kindle edition; Reunion hard cover; The Peking Payoff, Kindle edition; The Peking Payoff, paperback; The Seizing Of Singapore, Kindle edition; The Seizing Of Singapore, paperback; An H-Bomb For Alice, paperback; Deadline in Jakarta, paperback; The Mahathir Legacy, paperback; The Mahathir Legacy, Kindle edition.

I would prefer The Mahathir Legacy to be last as the only non-fiction book on the list.

I do not plan immediately to publish An H-Bomb For Alice and Deadline In Jakarta as Kindle books. (Maybe later.) I will upload covers for them.

If it is not possible to show both paperback and kindle editions of The Peking Payoff and The Seizing Of Singapore, then I would like the Kindle editions to take preference (since, as I mentioned above, the paperbacks are hard to find while the Kindle editions are easily available on Amazon).

I would be most grateful if this arrangement could be achieved and hope that someone will be kind enough to undertake this task.

(Which edition you prefer to show is what goodreads calls the "primary edition" and is something you as author get to set. If not specified, goodrwads just uses the most popular edition.

(See Author FAQ #4 this group at http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1... or help screens at http://www.goodreads.com/help/show/31... )

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 6325 comments Still going through your post. But before you add more books, please keep in mind that because there is more than one author with your name, you are "Ian^^^Stewart" where ^ is a space. So, Ian-3spaces-Stewart.

Ian Stewart (goodreadercomIanStewart) | 9 comments Thanks very much, Debbie. Have done that. Assume this means that only one edition can be displayed on the lists.

Can I rearrange the books in my preferred order as I outlined in my message?

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 6325 comments I think 1 is done except for the order of books. Members can choose to sort by title, date published, etc. but otherwise I'm pretty sure the books show on an author's page in descending popularity (number of goodreads members shelving).

Anyone know a way for librarian or author to sort how books appear on author's page?

Ian Stewart (goodreadercomIanStewart) | 9 comments Yes, I remember the three spaces i.d.

Will wait to see if you get any response from your query.

Thanks again for your help. Much appreciated.

As far as I know, and librarians aren't privy to what the author dashboard looks like, it is sorted by number of times shelved. Books that have been shelved more will be at the top.

My author dashboard has the books in two columns on two sites in no recognizable order.:-) But I am more interested in the main page, the one with my profile and blog (Profile page?), which is open to visitors.

That one always sorts the books by primary authorship and popularity. ("Primary authorship" means where you're listed first among multiple attributions; so, for example, if you wrote the introduction for a very popular book then that book would be listed after the books where you wrote the whole thing.)

Ian Stewart (goodreadercomIanStewart) | 9 comments Thanks, Cait. They're all mine! So I guess the GR software has listed them under its "popularity" criterion. Pity I just can't cut and paste to put them in the order I prefer. :-)

Anyway, thank you all for your help.
