(Agree, book in print at one rime has to stay; goodreads has book data pages versus product pages. Author or librarian can put information on new edition reflecting that it's revised and author can set the new one to be the primary edition so that only the new book shows on their author page and simple searches. But older book can't be yanked from shelves and can be seen if other editions selected on book's page.)

The book stays.

Good enough. The author asked, so it has gone.

I had always assumed that stuff on a Goodreads Author page was simply not touchable by us mere plebs. At least the delete worked for me. Yay!

That might depend on how different the new version is to the current one. If it is similar enough to be combined with the existing version then, yes, you will be able to set the new one as the default/primary edition.
If it is very different (more than just changing the title) then it will be a new book and will have its own entry in the database.
