Evening gang. Just met Ian Rankin in Preston as part of his new book tour. He talked and answered questions and we left with a signed copy of the new book. He even wrote happy anniversary in it - it's our second wedding anniversary today!

Happy Anniversary Jamie!I really enjoyed the documentary Tim,what a nice, unassuming man he seemed.I have still to buy his latest book but can't decide whether to download or buy hard copy!
I've never read any Ian Rankin, but after seeing the documentary, I did flick through the new book in Smiths. Didn't buy it though (by the time it'd get to the top of my TBR, it would be a whole lot cheaper!)
I've read all his Rebus books and most of his others. Unlike many other authors the quality of his writing remains pretty consistent.I considered attending his signing in Dundee, wish I had now!
Happy Anniversary for yesterday Jamie.I missed the documentary, which channel was it on ?
I do like Ian Rankin and have read all his Rebus books. He came across as quite a nice chap when I saw him on another program, it was a long time ago and I can't remember which program it was.
It was the imagine series hosted by Alan yentob on the BBC. Rankin comes across as utterly unaffected by his success. He chats away as if you'd just met him in a pub. We met him in Lancaster at a similar event about 18 months ago and he hung about afterwards chatting. We went to another pub afterwards and he turned up there too as he was staying in Lancaster. Plus, aside from his success, his approach to writing seems very similar to my own. He jots down ideas and keeps a folder and then delves into it when he's about to start a new book. Generally he has no clue where it's going and he plots as he goes.
