This is one of many books that I loved and am very glad I read and yet the ending lacked something. I can't say what it was, but it started out so strong and was so...original and innovative and then the ending seemed like such a let down.

I agree. The group were given the chance to change, though we don't know if they actually do, because the book ends with everything going back to how it was before the "Apocalypse".
By the way, I read somewhere that the book was being adapted, as a T.V. show.
