On the Road
question
Is this book really as boring as I thought it was?
I agree this novel's overrated. I prefer Desolation Angels, Dharma Bums or even Big Sur before this. I found Steinbeck's road book - Travels With Charley a much better read.

To me Jack Kerouac is more of a character and muse than
a writer."Go" by John Clellon Holmes is much better
written and makes the same point Kerouac was attempting
to make.Jack Kerouac was a hypocrite because he wrote
the book to protest parties.Sal Paradise was meant to
be the hero not Dean Moriarty.Jim Morrison was said
to be disapointed upon meeting Jack.Kerouac wanted to
be a myth so he went along with parties and became a
alcoholic.Dharma Bums and Good Blonde are the best Ive
read by him but I wont bother reading all of him.Rock stars Dylan and Morrison are better poets than him to me.Leonard Cohen the folk singer Ive also found I prefer.I think actors James Dean, Marlon Brando, and
painters Pollock and Krasner were more gifted than Kerouac.Kerouac thought painting was for wimps.Kerouac
to me was basically a handsome dumb jock who was manic
and openminded. His openmindedness was his best feature.

Yeah, this book is seriously tedious at times. I actually fell asleep a few times while reading it!
Yes. I tried to read it, but couldn't get beyond the immaturity and narcissism.

I like to think of it as atmospheric not boring. My own memoirs has been likened to it.

Discover what goes on behind the glassy eyed smile of a male street worker. A stereotypical cliché? Perhaps.
I attempt to knock away any preconceptions about damaged goods using plain spoken truth. No added glam or grit, this is my unapologetic story. A social history report. (of sorts). Regards PDL
