15,500 in 2013 Book Count Challenge

Sorry, I went to bed early last night. Still, this is only about an eight hour difference from when I usually do the update.

I joined the challenge, I had been so busy that I hadn't gotten around to fixing up any challenges for myself yet except for the 2013 reading challenge.

I didn't click on people this week, but I did the week before, so we had a big jump previously. I need to work on that broadcast message about 'refreshing' your number.

Yes, but that is because of the message that was sent out. Some people lowered their goal, or removed themselves from the challenge, so we might have overestimated our goal. The Mods are talking about it; we may lower to 15,000.

Just general rambling, but... I've of the things I love about the yearly challenges is going back and seeing how my reading tastes are "trending". Since I've started reading ebooks, and tagging them, I've noticed every year seems to have its own pattern... has anyone else noticed that? Or do you find you tend to stick mainly to one sub-genre?
I tend to jump around a lot: one day I'll read a historical romance book and the next it will be science fiction or urban fantasy. Part of that is challenges I'm doing for a month having books that are all over the place. Lately I've been reading classic fiction, ranging from horror to romance and even some science fiction. That's more an exception than the rule, though.Last year I read a lot of series books back to back: I'd start one series and read up to the newest book and then go on to another series. I don't think I'd be able to do that now though, I'd be too worried about getting burnt out. That's one good thing about jumping around all over the place when it comes to genres: no genre burn out!
I've started a couple of contemporary romance series in the last year or two, which is new for me. I'm finding that the attraction to certain sub-genres has really worn off, although I will still read them every so often.

ooh, yeah. can definitely relate to genre burn-out! 2010 was the year of romantic suspense for me. .. this year is looking like an erotica year for me. .. just wondered if other people had something similar happen

Wonderful topic, CaroB! I was just noticing this. Last year I started reading more historical romances with a touch of mystery. This year I'm reading more straight mystery. And also checking out other genres besides **gasp** Romance. A few years ago (about three) I stopped reading series back-to-back.

I haven't gotten burned out since I started jumping around so much. I've also noticed that if I start getting burned out anyway, I can listen to an audiobook or two and then be able to go back to my non audiobooks. Not sure that would work for everyone, but it's helped me. I've read books every month this year so far, while last year when I got burned out I would have to stop reading for a month or two before I was able to get back into a book.
I tend to stick to the PNR and UF genres, although some of my books lately have been straight romance (mostly kindle freebies I've been collecting).
I think I could read a series back to back now , but only if there's only 2-3 books so far in that series. I've noticed that when I start a new series, I read the other books in that series within a week or so but not back to back.
Hmm, time to pick up the reading! Well, the long Thanksgiving weekend is coming up, as are the Xmas holidays.

With my calculations will get to 15655 books by the end of December.(if we continue with the same pace )
