Jace didn't know that Alec was in love with him. What he knew is that Alec was afraid that Jace would hate him of being a gay and in love with Magnus. Jace said that it is okay, that it didn't matter to him.

I think he is still going through his puberty thats why he has that crankiness. But I do like the way he thinks of Clary, and how they are meant for each other, even if Jace is kind weird.
Thats why I prefer Simon Lewis more than Jace. :)

Jace was deeply hurt, and he hurt Alec at that. But Alec also needed that. Maybe he was terribly hurt with what Jace has said, but he was finally released from his scariest moment ever. Not that Jace was not wrong, but when people are hurt at most, they throw their anger to others.
Jace also hurt Clary that time. And he loves Clary the most. He didn't actually stress his anger out to Alec being a gay or to Alec specifically, but to everyone nearby. And he loves Clary the most.
I think you just hate Jace and took what he did towards Alec as an excuse, despite the situation.
Be my guest...

Jace was brought up with a faith that to love is to destroy. It makes him someone who doesn't really want to get involved with anyone else. He could not even do that to the Lightwoods, despite the love he always has for them. Clary is the person who shakes him from that belief. But it is not easy to change a person into a totally different person from what he has been the whole year. To understand about Jace, is to actually read the whole books.
As I said before, you are welcome to hate Jace. We agree to disagree... :)

I don't much care for Jace. There are a lot of guys like him in today's YA literature. Girls like being treated badly by jerks like him, apparently.
I wonder how these girls would react to Jace and his behavior if he wasn't good-looking/hot/gorgeous/whatever, though...
However, I admire the patience you've shown regarding some of the user who participated in this discussion. If someone called me crazy for not liking a character, even though it's just my opinion, I would get severely annoyed, but you stay perfectly calm and civil.
Thumbs up!

We aren't too opinionated, we have opinions just as everyone else does. I could say non-fans are over opinionated, but it's just that everyone has their different thoughts.

When Hayley gave away her dislike towards Jace, and even though I disagree with her, I think she has every right in disliking Jace. But you are something else. You were attacking us, Jace's fans.
You might have crossed out the sentence I quoted back at you, but it really shows the feeling you have against us. If you didn't mean to offend us, you could have it deleted easily. But you didn't. How wonderful.

You're cute, sorry my post offended you, I'm just bitchy like that. Though in my book "opinionated" isn't that bad of an insult.
But it's just a fact that some of her fans can get pretty...rabid. I shouldn't've generalized like that, you're right. But if you look at message 5 and message 11, you can't deny that some of her fans don't even try to be reasonable or to state their opinions in an "acceptable" way.
I used to be really into TMI myself some time ago, actually, but I just grew out of it, not just because I don't enjoy the series anymore, but because I hated being in a fandom that behaves like this.

agreed x 1000"
Aggggggggrrrrrrrrreeeeeedddddddd!!!!!!!!

Ahhh.... I see. Frankly... I think calling them 'rabid' is too much. I think they are young and hurt by the way Hayley called Jace. I think Rachel was serving Hayley back her words. I don't think she meant for Hayley to be literally crazy. And Daisy97 was just upset and confused. That is why she asked that question.
To be honest, the description Hayley was giving away is not something we can actually find in TMI series. Jace is interesting and smart. He is snarky and sarcastic. His words make the readers laugh. We can not get that from character like Alec. I think since Hayley has 'decided' to hate Jace, it was rather difficult for her to go through Jace's lines and love him for that.
I'm just bitchy like that
Well... aren't we all, sometimes? As long as we are civilized bitches (LOL), then it is okay... ;)

:)

It's pretty clear that the reader isn't meant to like him and I don't and most of the others don't either, so no point in bringing it up.

It's pretty clear that the reader isn't meant t..."
you are wrong. It does make sense. A lot actually but since you are uncapable to understand that what I was pointing out was a comparison i wont bother with further explanations. Its futile.

It's pretty clear that the reader ..."
Excuse me? Why does not liking Jace equal liking Sebastian? That's like saying not liking Malfoy equals liking Voldemort!
And if I don't understand where you are coming from, why not explain it to me, instead of getting all defensive about it?

It's pretty clear th..."
As I said earlier its futile to give other explanations to a person like you. so just forget it.

Alec is not his best friend, he is his brother. They have known each other all their life. If you have any, don't you make fun of and joke and fight with your brothers and/or sisters?

It's pr..."
Persons like me, who do what? Demand an explanation? Sweetie, what's your problem?

I totally agree with this Nurley. Jace thought at the time that to love is to ditroy. He probably thout if he did not say this to Alec at the time, then he would love him too much and would get "desroyed". Plus, he was being sarcastic, and that is just who he is, and that is part of why people think he is so attractive. (me).

<3 to that

I also agree to that. He can be a jerk, but.... see my above comments. He has reasons, and that does not mean that yall should be hating on him....Even though he is not a real person.

The correct question is: what is YOUR problem?

Yes, this is also true. He is really good at hiding his emotions, and you can see this in the rare occourences of chapters in Jaces' point of veiw that Cassandra occasionally decides to treat us with. Most of it IS just an act and not how he really feels about things. Act is not really the word, but more like, he jokes about things that are actually really real for him, and that is his way of makeing things not ackward or emotional or too sirious, even though he knows they are. And sorry for all the typos that are probably in all of my comments.

Because I don't like Jace?

That doesnt seem to be your REAL problem.

As far as I know, my only problem is that I'm hungry and that is about to get solved, as I plan to eat pizza now.

Even if he was not as good looking, I would still like him because he is scarcastic and funny, and would not be boring to be around, and would make you laugh a lot. The good looking part is just a bonus though. People would still love him even if he was not hot. Even if his humor is sometimes at another persons expence, some people are too sensitive and need to take a joke. I know that sounds really insensetive of ME, and I know sometimes he does go too far, and they have a right to be mad or hurt, but most of the time he doesn't mean it, and if again, you go back to the capters in Jaces' point of veiw you will know that he really is a good person. Do you know what I mean? I laugh a lot in this book and it is mostly because of Jace.

And my problem is that your replies make no sense to me.

When Hayley gave away her dislike towards Jace, and even though I disagree with her, I think s..."
yes

Fair enough, and the feeling is mutual, sweetie.

Yep, you're right, some of the things he says are pretty funny. Admittedly, when I read the book(s) for the first time, I did laugh out loud several times.
