Yolanda I liked it, I gave it 4 stars. I only read the first 2 books in the series. The second book is better and a lot happens in it!

Shari I read these when they first came out, loved them! Hope you do to. Liked how the last book of the series is a prequel.

Penny I read this series a very long time ago, but it has stuck with me, as I really enjoyed it. even taking into account the sensitive subject of incest.
I think it is the best of what Ms Andrews wrote, as they all seemed very sentimental and soppy after this series.

Bevin Kutluoglu I love this series. I think I read it for the first time when I was 12 or 13 (ish) ... 20 years later, it still holds up as one of my favourite stories.

Definitely read the ones that Ms Andrews wrote herself: this series, the beginning of the Casteel series (I think the first two) & her standalone novel, My Sweet Audrina. These are all excellent stories with close-to-seamless writing. I'd give 4 stars ... :)

Carrie Marshall Make sure you see the movie--its an old one but its good if you like the book.

I loved the book so much, when I first read it, that I actually cried, in the middle of the reading then I cried again when I found out afterward that the writer actually died a few years later.

I give the book 5 stars. This book goes on the list of my personal favorite books that I have ever read in my life time.

Note*
When I first read the book I had No expectations on the book. Maybe with your expectations being really high, it might affect the way you feel about Flowers.
Hopefuly not*

Lisa I read it years ago, at least 30 or 35...have to say, it was never a favorite. Good luck, I hope you liked it better than I did. Seems a lot of people did.

That's what I mean. When I gave you that Foot note. I was trying to say that one of the reasons why I liked it so much was because I had no expectations for it.

Good luck with the reading.

I asked to get this series when I was still at secondary school for Christmas and I stayed up all night to finish them! I was engrossed from day one and had to complete the series.
No other series of books has held me as enthralled as this one, maybe because I was so young and a lot of the subject matter was considered taboo. There is also another Virginia Andrews stand alone title My Sweet Audrina by V.C. Andrews

Carey Shea I read the first few books of the series when they first came out ions ago and then lost interest. The first book really left an impression. Super spooky and scary. For some reason I only remember the first book but that probably because it was sooo good.

I LOVE this series. I really feel it's her best. It gets a little weird a few books in, but it's still excellent.

Rennie Iolanda wrote: "The books arrived today!! Well according to my mother they have. Not allowed to open them until christmas.

Ha, me too. Those are my two main criteria when looking for books =]

The whole series was fun for me, except the third book. The ending of the fouth book haunted me for a while.

Removed Removed The movie was one of my favorites. BUT...I was disappointed in it after i read the books. It left out a lot of the more "taboo" subjects, and really didnt give enough screen time to Corrine's transformation. In the movie you see her as "if you are cruel to my children...i'll take them away", and then bam...she's back as mega meanie...with no real explanation as to why...the books explain this far better. But Louise Fletcher rocked the Grandmother, even if a lot of book was left out.

No one is doing a good job in that movie except for Louise Fletcher. ( I think that's her name. ) The book is infinitly better than the movie.

Removed Removed The 2nd book in the series, and the third which i gave up halfway through, did not hold the same interest I had for the first one. There were a lot of "extra" characters added, and left very little time for further interaction between Cathy, Corrine, and the grandmother. Which really are the relationships you want to know about.

Iolanda wrote: "The grandmother can act. The rest can't but I can't help picture those actors as the characters in the book, maybe I should've read the books beforehand. By the way are the other 4 worth reading?"

In my opinion, the second book is very good. The 3rd book wasn't good for me. The 4th book was good with a very Tragic ending and the prequel is also good but none of them is as good as Flowers.

Tabbycatz I first read these books as a teen and I just turned 45. Let me say I think I re-read this series at least 4 times. This series will have you hooked. It is one of the best V.C. Andrews series. A lot of people that V.C. Andrews passed and a ton of the books after this where written by ghost writers using her unfinshed work and manuscripts.

I started reading VC Andrews in junior high and now I'm a mom and she is one of my favorites! I could re-read any of her series!

Yes, I know. Cathy goes through a Bitch phase. There are a lot of teens who go through the " I'm Beautyful. There fore I'm better than you". Stage in thier lives. Keep reading. Your views of her will change.

Good for you. :)

Tania Woodger definitely shouldn't have watched that poor dated film beforehand...nevertheless, the 1st and 2nd books were excellent reads & would recommend them to anyone :)

Martha Many years ago I read the first three, but what are the rest of the books to make the full series? I'd like to finish the set.

Tania Woodger The series is as follows;
Flowers in the attic
Petals on the wind
If there be thorns
Seeds of yesterday
Garden of shadows
I also hope to read the remaining books (that is after I've read the half-read books I've accumilated)

Very disturbing series-dark, gothic, some incest...but it is classic V.C. Andrews and there was a movie made based on Flowers in the Attic; but nothing compares to Andrews' magical words.

Catherine There is something about these books that clearly speak to the 12 to 15 year old group. Hence why so may people and I count myself amongst them have read these in their teenage years. Comming of age, the fear around sex and sexuality, the realisation of ones self and that classic of the young wanting to be older without really knowing what that means.
And though I at the time enjoyed them and connected with the story line and characters easily. On re-reading them now, though still good as an adult with my own life experiences it's all with much more distances. I can understand the characters but really can't get into them, I find myself getting all motherly, perhaps not surprising and it means I'm not there with them in the story, but very much me looking on (sometimes with some frustration).
I would still suggest you read them there is a reason why so many people love them and others who certainly do not, because their is something dark, animal, distasteful and shameful about these books that is all too real.....perhaps too real for some?
Though I think you should keep to the Virginia Andrew books not the ghost writer V.C. Andrews though I notice the even Flowers in the Attic is being labelled as "V.C." now. Perhaps some can clear that up, but as far as I knew she only wrote Flowers in the attic, Petals on the wind and If there be thorns. The other two are ghost written from notes of the author and books after that are complete ghost writer written?

Vanessa I love VC Andrews. I started reading them in middle school. I will tell you that this series is one of my favorites because this is her actual book that she wrote. I would recommend reading My Sweet Audrina. That is my favorite of all her books and it is not mentioned enough like it should. And it is a stand alone book.
