Ashley-Anne is this book similar to books like Moby Dick and Captains Courageous.

Jeff It is similar in the fact that it takes place on a ship in roughly the same time period. This is a true story, and although quite good, doesn't have the same dramatic impact as the two books you mentioned. If you like sea-going books, then I would recommend it.

Ashley-Anne thank you very much!

Daniel Besides a good sea story, I really liked the descriptions of California. I was born and raised in CA and have been to the places Dana describes in the main body of the text as well as the epilogue. They look very different now.

Lady Loved this book. What a fantastic story, and all true! Lived in San Francisco before reading it, and now have a whole new appreciation for the area. I'm so glad he was brave enough to step outside of the future that seemed so planned for him and do what his heart dictated. His book opened a new awareness in so many people of his day. It was educational and inspirational. I'm still amazed by it even having been written in the first place. Cool guy this Dana; would have loved to have been able to meet him!
