A book without ISBN

The ISBN belongs to the 1988 edition. http://www.worldcat.org/title/diction...
Not sure why you added info from another edition instead.

There is no evidence of a 1988 edition. I have searched various libraries for definitive proof of its existence.
I found different information on this one. I searched for the ISBN a was directed to the first 1964 edition and I found a 1988 edition (9th) in a German library without any ISBN.

The information looks incorrect. There cannot have been a 9th edition without all the other editions in between. There is not one evidence of any other edition. Unless this is a German translation, I don't see how this is possible. Even so, it claims to be printed in NY by Free Press. I don't know if they have publications in German.
The publication is in English and I found seller's information on editions in between. Just because a publication is listed in Germany, it does not necessarily have to be in German. I see no evidence why I should doubt the library's information if they say they possess a printed copy of this book.

Just because one library lists it as existing does not necessarily mean it does. I prefer to use data triangulation methods to arrive at definitive proofs of existence. A single source could be the result of an error, a single source of failure. I am trying to get in touch with the library to verify the details.

1965, 2nd printing
1965, 3rd printing
1967, 4th printing
1969, 5th printing
1988, 9th printing
Thanks Vicki. Then I would be right to say there is only one edition in which case, there may not be an ISBN but I'll never know until I get hold of the relevant people to verify the facts.
While there may be only one edition, with a first printing in 1964, the ISBN may have been added to a later printing. Thus, you will have a 1964 book/edition with a ISBN in the GR database. (GR does not track individual printings, only unique editions.)
Agreed and understood. Now I shall seek to verify the ISBN's validity from the library in Germany. Thanks, Vicki.
Considering that ISBNs did not become into being until 1965 and into common use until 1970 (my mother for example has a book printed in 1970 and it does not have an ISBN), it's no surprise that the book did not originally have an ISBN if it was published originally in 1964.
@Laura: that's right. But as vicky_girl pointed out there are several printings including the one from 1988. By then, ISBN was common standard and the book might have gotten one. Since GR does not separate printings it seems correct to apply an ISBN to a book published in 1964 with a re-print in 1988.

Should it have a download link in the description? Aren't any non-goodreads links to book's official URL supposed to be in official URL field ?

I have put some references in the librarian's comments. Please take a look. I don't suppose I can just remove the ISBN, can I? NABing doesn't seem to apply, or does it?
