Great that you are back Debbie. What amazing children you have Paul and Jason. But then you know that.
I have been kind of busy with my own book group, and at the same time my own reading has gone down. I suppose it's a bit strange to be the moderator when you don't read as much but without me the Finns on GR wouldn't really have a place to chat in Finnish and about Finnish books (as well as others of course), so I don't feel too bad about it.
I have taken another job teaching, so I haven't been reading as much. I have tried to keep up with the BV group reads. I'm on break right now. I read today and organized some kitchen drawers and did laundry.
Tonight is date night with the hubby and hopefully it is not my turn to drive so I can have a drink.....
Thanks for asking. My family makes fun of me because the "new" job is it the same school. It's just another class. It's Anatomy and Physiology. It still takes up a lot of time I have 40 students in one class.

Here it is pretty strict, elementary school teachers teach almost all subjects themselves to their own class (languages and some others that require special skills can have different teachers, my father didn't teach music or textile work) but from 7th grade all subjects have specialized teachers whose degrees are from that subject.
OK, in my schools the chemistry teacher taught only physics and maybe maths. Most teachers had a couple of subjects that they taught.

it's similar here Tytti, in primary school one teacher teaching everything to their class, then in secondary school it becomes a teacher per subject.
I also work at a school but as I tell the teachers on a daily basis I am way too clever to teach. :-)
My daughter has just finished her teaching course and is now looking for work. Not everyone wants a newly qualified teacher as it's still a lot of work for the school with mentoring etc. She will go anywhere but London, prefers not Birmingham either. Anyone know of any jobs in primary? Jason, you are correct. When I see what my daughter had to go through for her PGCE the most intelligent don't do it. More difficult than her degree and her boyfriends Masters as working full time too. Hideous. Re quiet. I thought so too, Paul. However it's summer and maybe we are too ashamed to put on our holiday reads....Haha
Nothing at my place, dunno if she is interested in working with deaf children, advantage small classes, disadvantage more training to do. I'll keep my ears open for any jobs.
Ta. Can't remember where you live. She is interested in SEN teaching so looking for all sorts. Good joke btw. I love the old ones.....

I stopped teaching properly a few years ago and then did some agency work. Now that I'm fully retired I still get very frequent emails telling me about teaching posts ( most full time). In fact I've had two through this week, wanting staff as soon as possible.
I will tell her. The only reason she didn't go for London was how expensive it is to live there. I know Brighton is the same, well it was a few years ago. Lovely though. Will let her know. Thanks
To change subject, just went to see Satish Kumar at Appledore book festival. What an amazing man. Such fun. Is 80 and looks 60. Fit as a fiddle. Have any of you read any of his books?
Happy Christmas to you all. I think we may all get Xmas at different times as there are lots of nations represented on the Book vipers.
When I celebrate Christmas is the ONLY correct time to celebrate....anyways Merry Christmas to you all.
A Merry and a Happy, Joyous Christmas to all around the world. It is such a privilege to be able to communicate with people from so many different places! May we have a happy and PEACEFUL new year.
Apologies to anyone who saw the post from Izzy. I think Good Reads have already eliminated her profile...
Yeah, I saw it. Thankfully I have already forgot what it was but still...If anyone wants to take a quick tour (of about 20 minutes) of Helsinki and the neighbouring town of Espoo (the second biggest in Finland, it has a nice countryside), you can see one in this video. Granted the scenery goes by fast, the average speed is almost 100 kph. (There is a small motorcycle chase going on, a dangerous known criminal on drugs with a habit of speeding vs. the police. He got almost two years in prison for that and other crimes.) But it's a lovely day, probably the only lovely day last summer, and the scenery is nice.
