Milestones is a fantastic place. You going there to see the grotto?

I recommend getting there for when it opens, can get really busy."

We are hoping that most will be putting them selves through the hell that is Christmas shopping rather that going there

Tytti | 494 comments Peaceful Christmas (like we often say here) and Happy Holidays with this song sang by one of Finland's Finest / opera singer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6EiV...

I guess cops have more reasons than most people to wish peaceful holidays for everyone.

Jason (jasondenness) | 1877 comments I've been interviewed as a reader. Feels super bizarre to have this happen. Link here if anybody wants to see how amazing I is.

Modest too! Was that an online interview?

message 1055: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1877 comments Yes. This year the author and his publicist have been interviewing other authors and came up with the idea of interviewing a reader, I guess they were very drunk. :)

Catherine | 492 comments Mod
Wow, way to go Jason, that sounds exciting. Although I can't get to that site, must be only for amazing people. :-D
What happens now, are you on a shortlist of readers or have they chosen you already?

message 1057: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1877 comments Hi Catherine, the link contains the interview, site seems to be down, wow I must be popular. Haha
Interview has been posted on a goodreads blog, here is the link for that.

message 1060: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1877 comments Just finished book 150, by far the best I've ever done, will try hard again next year to defeat Paul :)

Jennifer | 22 comments Jason wrote: "Just finished book 150, by far the best I've ever done, will try hard again next year to defeat Paul :)"

Wow I cant imagine reading that many books in one year but I will sure try. My total this year is four so far. Four more than last year so it is a start.

I guess I am the prodigal daughter when it comes to reading.. now that I found my way back to it .. I'm hoping one day I can be on the same level as the both of you.

Paul (halfmanhalfbook) | 5463 comments Mod
The fact that you are reading again is the important thing Jennifer. One book at a time is the way to do it.

Merry Christmas All!

message 1066: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1877 comments Well done Jennifer, I never read that much, Goodreads has really helped so you're in the right place.

Merry Christmas everybody.

message 1067: by Bella (last edited Dec 24, 2015 10:42AM) (new)

Bella | 80 comments Merry Christmas, everyone!

Just celebrated my 25th anniversary. My husband and I thought being married around Christmas would be great- we'd always remember it, you're shopping for gifts anyway so it's efficient. But once we had kids, we only get to celebrate it every few years. Too busy.

Congratulations on the interview, Jason. I think us "super-readers" keep the publishing industry in business. That's why I love Goodreads, most people I know read a handful of best sellers and nothing else. (Assuming they even read anything.)

Jennifer, I would say that if you want to read more books every year, finding a way to read at least an hour a day is more important than reading quickly. Although, the more reading practice you get, the faster you read. I can read as fast as 1300+ words per minute. My "cruising" speed is about 500-1000, I think. That makes it about 2 to 4 pages per minute, so I get a standard book of around 300 pages finished in about 1 1/4 to 2 1/2 hours. That's how I read a book a day- one hour in the morning before the kids get up, one hour at night once they've gone to bed. (Although this year I've read, so far, 459 books, plus re-reads.)

At an hour a day, once you get your reading speed up to 250 WPM, you can finish a 300 page book every 5 days.

Jennifer, I am a slow reader. I love to savour the words. Speed isn't important. Enjoyment is. Excellent.

Merry Christmas to you all. Thanks for all being such supportive people in last year. It's been great to read it all.

message 1079: by Bella (new)

Bella | 80 comments I'm having massive internet problems, so I hope this goes through. Hope everyone has a happy and safe New Year's. We're staying in this year- friends invited us out, but the news said that 350,000 people are descending and they usually block off the streets. (So you're stuck until they unblock which can mean 2 or 3 in the morning if you're in a bad location. I'm too old to stay out that late. And I don't want to feel like I can't get to my kids.)

Bella | 80 comments In 2015, I read 465 books and a little over 150,000 pages. Sorry, feel a little brag is in order. I haven't managed that much in a while- three kids take a lot out of you.

Cathy | 553 comments Wow, Bella, that's incredible. Hopefully you'll inspire your kids to become bookworms too!

message 1090: by Bella (new)

Bella | 80 comments Paul wrote: "Well done Bella. It does make my paltry amount look pathetic though."

But Paul, you have better taste than I do. Always look forward to seeing what you're reading.

Thanks, everyone.

Cathy, only two of my kids really like to read. The oldest is getting more interested in reading, but we've always tried to spark that interest- plying him with graphic novels, comics, manga, etc. But he's not really a read for fun type reader. The good thing is that he's encouraging his younger brother and sister to read more- he's told them that college would be a lot easier if only he read faster. (Which he's told them is a result of reading as a kid.)

I don't think I'll manage that many books this year- I'm trying to knock off some of the longer books off my TBR list and shelves. Currently reading Les Misérables by Victor Hugo.

Just got back from Southampton Uni for a family chemistry lecture. The guy doing it was very funny. Had loads of big bangs too, making my eldest jump fairly often.

They have another open day on the 12th March that we may go to:

I used to cycle to school all throughout the winter. I only didn't when the ice was like glass and there was water on it, too... To be fair, it was difficult to even walk or drive on that. The coldest I remember was -38 degrees.
