General Chit-Chat
Now I am missing only the first one and have 17/20 and 10/20 from the previous ones. It's just difficult when I can't be sure I have ever even heard of the books...

Well done Anna
Tytti wrote: "I am doing the earlier ones with a friend. Bit difficult for non-natives..."
They are not particularly easy for native speakers Tytti

But you may have at least heard of some titles that are unknown for us or have completely different titles, or you can guess more easily. I'm missing only 11/44 in total, so I probably did better than with the one in Finnish. There I had two friends helping me and we got 41/50...
Which ones you stuck on Tytti? We can give some heavy hints!!!To be honest I'd never heard of 2 of the books in the single ones (never as in never ever at all) what I did was put words that I though might relate to the items in the picture into Goodreads and searched under title!!!
Anna wrote: "Which ones you stuck on Tytti? We can give some heavy hints!!!"Well the first one in singles. (I hadn't heard of the third but I have been meaning to read the fourth for a long time.)
Then the water bottle and the peppermint stick/palace thingie in the first big picture.
Then the wolf, bird, compass, soldiers, looking glass, net/tower, picture and sock in the other. I did that one alone and spend less time with it, so there might be some obvious ones left. Some almost ring a bell but I can't quite catch them...
Jason wrote: "the clue for the soldiers is to look at what the one in the middle is doing."I thought so but that's the problem, finding the right word for it in English... It may or may not be something else in Finnish. Or there is a play of words I just don't get...
Thanks Paul - I'll try a bit longer to work it out.Jason, it hadn't occurred to me that the plant was ivy, and now I can't get that out of my head! Truly, this thing is designed to drive you insane!

You're welcome. haha
I had the same with thinking it was Ivy too - once I stopped that it was easier!!The big smile though!????!
Tytti wrote: Then the water bottle and the peppermint stick/palace thingie in the first big picture. With the water bottle you need to note the size of the bottle and also think what the level of water is
The peppermint stick is called 'rock' in Britain and the building on the label is Brighton Pavilion
Shall be back with the other one once I recall the answers!!!

Haha just done the teeth, first guess, never heard of the book but I just typed what I saw.
Right Tytti I'm back (kids are now fed)The wolf
Felt this one was a bit off, as I couldn't see why it could interpret that easily, so I concentrated on the animal (spelt incorrectly)
The bird
What is the bird doing? Think about what that sound is called
Compass
The direction of the compass is important
Soldiers
The guy in the Middle is doing a March as you have noticed, very classic
Looking glass
Who typically is thought, in an old fashioned way, as using a magnifying glass. It has a bow on it which hints to the sex of the person and the No 1 is important
net/tower
The tower is a 'Rook' from chess - though it's also called a castle. What do you do with a net?
Picture
It's a painting - think about what a painting of a person tends to be called, then think about what she is
sock
Socks are some times called Stockings (especially long ones), there were a series of children's books that went by this name
Thanks, I have to look at the clues when I have a bit more time. I understood many of them but finding the right word(s) and then the title is more difficult. I had guessed the sock already. Both the Finnish and Swedish titles are different it took some time...
Hmph... I just visited our library and recommended a couple of book series to a fellow patron when I heard her asking about them (historical mysteries). But then I forgot to mention my own favourite that probably isn't very well known. Great...
That sounds like a good reason to return to the library!
Does anyone use spreadsheets to track and plan their reading?:

Paul wrote: "That sounds like a good reason to return to the library!"Well it was already closing, so she had to leave, too.
I did make a spreadsheet for myself this fall, but it only tracks pages per day, week, month and year. Otherwise I use GR. I did start a reading journal but then I started to read more books. Maybe I only journal better ones....
I use Goodreads too, plus I have to keep a list of our book club books as I am the organiser for the group. Goodreads are useful there, in case I forget one month and can't remember the name of last book. I have no memory for titles, authors or content. I can only remember good or bad. I never go first in book club discussion. Haha
Hehee, a fun headline in an article today: Finns had a lot of sex exactly 70 years ago. How do we know this? There has never been born as many children as in August and September 1945. The reason for that was that men were demobilized around this time, after the Continuation War had ended in early September. Only the young conscripts and the regular army were allowed to continue fighting in the Lapland War. Even my uncle, born 1924, was let go. I think he had served over a year by then...
