Sandy | 458 comments Happy Mother's Day! I'm taking my mom out for lunch. We will probably take a walk and have tea on her porch. My kids got me a portable device charger and candy. :)

Have spent the evening watching my son and his football teams collect their end of year prizes. Thankfully there was a bar...

message 661: by Sandy (new)

Sandy | 458 comments I remember those days. I had two in baseball at the same time, and had to run from one game to another. After a full day of work and then watching games until late. arghh.

It was, spent ages sat on the grass watching a battle, no clouds about, only thing missing was an ice cold beer.

When I went to China in February, i flew in without a visa which was slightly nerve wracking!

message 668: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1877 comments You can fly? awesome

Paul (halfmanhalfbook) | 5463 comments Mod
:-)

message 670: by Pat (new)

Pat Morris-jones | 1373 comments Bovington tank museum. That brings back memories. When we were children we went every year. In those days it was free to get in and you could climb all over the tanks. Great fun when you are a child.

message 671: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 380 comments I took my youngest son and 3 of his friends to Go Ape recently. Great day out for kids (and big kids!). I'd recommend it to anybody as a family day out. We went to the Farnham one but I think they're dotted around.

message 672: by Sandy (new)

Sandy | 458 comments Jackie, Being American I had to look up where this is. Lol. Jason, I think he flew on one of your favorite things, a dragon.

message 673: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 380 comments Ohh Sandy, it might be a little too far for you to go for a day trip then lol.

Go Ape is brilliant, we went to the one in Thetford Forest for my son's birthday with a few of his friends. All I can say is, I'm glad I was supervising from the ground - I sent my husband up to deal with the children high up!

I am excited about this, I was just looking at the short list a couple of days ago. It is such a strong field. I have only read three, but have one more waiting (Burial Rites) and two on order from the library so fully intend to read all of them this year.

Debbie (debbiegregory) | 585 comments Jo, It is a very strong list this year. I've read Americanah, Goldfinch. I have Burial Rites and the Undertaking , would like to read the other 2 also.
My money is on the Goldfinch as I think it's a masterpiece.

Cathy | 553 comments No idea who will win but it's a great list. Only read one so far (Americanah) but have Burial Rites and Goldfinch to read for the magic square and will try to get to the others too.

Off to listen to Front Row now to find out who's won!

A Girl Is a Half-formed Thing by Eimear McBride!

Congratulations to her, I have one more ahead of me in the I library queue, so will read it soon to honour her achievement.

Glad I ordered it the other day, as there will be a rush on it now, though it does have mixed reviews - Marmite book by the looks of things.

message 687: by Cathy (new)

Cathy | 553 comments Great story about how she has been published after years of trying and being told by publishers that they loved her work, but couldn't market it. There is hope for new writers!

Going to read this for the 'award winner' square.

message 688: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1877 comments Good idea Cathy, was trying to work out which book to read for that square.

Debbie (debbiegregory) | 585 comments Darren Aronofsky plans to make a miniseries of Margaret Atwood's MaddAdam trilogy for HBO. I think I am very excited.

Does anyone know how to edit details of books on GoodReads? Apparently you need librarian status. No desire to have that, but my (slightly obscure) poetry book has the wrong title and the author's name is spelt wrongly too - would like to get it corrected.

My worst nightmare, if you want to torture me, put me at a music festival with 200,000 people. I have no idea how I would cope. THANK THE LORD for the power of television. I love the music, Arcade Fire are amazing tonight.

Just so relieved I can watch and listen from my sofa. I spent 3 years as a teenager living just up the road from Glasto and I never went, even at18 it filled me with horror as all my friends went off for a 3 day trip of whatever it was at the time. I have no regrets! Love the music, hate the mud and the crowds!

message 695: by Paul (new)

Paul (halfmanhalfbook) | 5463 comments Mod
It has never appealed to me either. I'd rather be in a pub reading a book. Listening to music.

message 696: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1877 comments Yeah I hate too many people, when I go see some music it is at really small venues.

message 697: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (debbiegregory) | 585 comments I love them. So much fun things to see and do. We've been taking kids since the twins were 18 months. You just have to pick, smaller family friendly festival.

message 698: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (debbiegregory) | 585 comments This looks fantastic and really want to do this one, more literary than musical

Womad is really great. Haven't been with the kids though. I don't mind crowds but I've gone off camping in my old(er) age.

Metallica have just started!
