Elizabeth (merelyreading) OK, thanks. Is mildly amusing .... Think the Penguin one was funnier.

Still chuckling about the BB thing! I have always thought he is utterly wonderful, but audiobooks? Nah!

This was my favourite from yesterday. My wife fell for it:

That's hilarious. Brilliant.

We have Brian Blessed as our sat nav voice. It is brilliant; not too OTT as he has a lovely voice anyhow. There are some funny bits, such as: "You have reached the motorway. Squadron 40, DIIIIIVE!"

Jo Weston (joster) | 1697 comments Mod
OMG Lisa, how absolutely amazing, or are you April Fooling us?!

If you aren't, which sat nav, I must know! He has an incredible voice, so distinctive.

Paul - very good!

It is a Tom Tom one. I think you can download it from their website, or you used to be able to. There was a huge campaign on Facebook for him to do it and TomTom said if it got 10,000 likes they would book him. It did, so they did :) It is really great Jo, it makes me smile every journey.

I love that story, that has really made me smile. I can picture it now - shushing the children in the car so I can hear him on the sat nav. I must investigate!

Having now googled Tom Tom and Brian Blessed, I am rather embarrassed that I was oblivious, clearly it was quite well publicised! Even seen a you tube clip. Ho ho ho.

message 611: by Betty C. (new)

Betty C. | 127 comments Sorry I have not been participating lately. A number of things are contributing to this, mainly work overload, including some work travel, and my dad's being very ill in the USA, which is hard and emotional but also means most evenings are spent on the phone with my mom.

Also, on a more mechanical note, my Kindle broke down and that kind of made me lose my reading mojo.

Likely because I am so preoccupied by other life issues, I screwed up ordering a new Kindle twice -- I somehow didn't validate the order and twice it was just sitting waiting to be confirmed! But I finally got it set up and running today and hope to get back into reading mode. I definitely want to read The Rosie Project...

Welcome back Betty!

Debbie (debbiegregory) | 585 comments So sorry you're having a tough time Betty. I wish your Dad well, an easier workload and a speedy delivery on your new Kindle. It sounds like you could do with the distraction. x

Sandy | 458 comments Last year my elderly dad was ill after a bad fall. I was trying to write my capstone paper and visit him in the hospital. You forget everything when someone is sick. Take care.

Thank you for the message. I did get the Kindle and need to get back into reading...the nice weather here is giving me a boost.

Yes, these are hard times. Things are stable for the moment and the nice weather here in SW France has given me a boost. Taking things a day at a time...

Wishing you all the best, Betty. Reading is a panacea to most things, I find

message 618: by Wendy (new)

Wendy Hope things are improving now Betty.

Just got a bit of a question and wondered if anyone had an opinion. I have been a member of Book Crossing for a while (although not a particularly active one) and am considering joining Bookmooch. Just wondered if anyone else here was involved in Bookmooch and if it is worth doing? Thanks.

I had never heard of them, until then, Wendy. Another member uses Read it, swap it:(www.readitswapit.co.uk/TheLibrary.aspx) which seems similar

Wendy Thanks Paul, it looks interesting.

Sandy | 458 comments What is everyone doing for the holiday weekend? I'm finishing the two books I haven't had time to read during the week, going on a bike ride and making dinner for my family tomorrow.

Paul (halfmanhalfbook) | 5463 comments Mod
We have friends visiting today, and are seeing family on Monday. I managed to read a whole book yesterday, and I am on my second of the weekend so far.

We are at home watering our new garden!!!!! Literally just gone in so watering is a full time job. Lovely though. Otherwise it is Cycle rides, pub garden, family day on Monday.

Five days all just here at home together, rarely happens, so we are really enjoying it.

message 624: by Wendy (new)

Wendy We have had a weekend of decorating so far, but Easter lunch with my parents tomorrow and a country fair on Monday which will be lovely.

message 632: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (debbiegregory) | 585 comments Thomas Piketty's new book Capital in the 21st century is causing a bit of a furore this week. Anyone else planning on reading it. I'm quite dismayed and yet amused that the ebook is £17.99 on Kindle, capitalism in full throttle ;)

Paul (halfmanhalfbook) | 5463 comments Mod
There was an article on it in the Guardian, that i haven't read yet. Looks interesting, and he is ruffling some feathers in the ivory towers of capitalism.

I do read reasonably quickly, and make the time to read. Have only seen a couple of hours of telly this week.

It will be a deafening roar Jason! Plus the thud of books as they are dropped on the "read" pile.....

My husband and son would love that day out, right up their street. Tanks and a castle is about as good as it gets.

Jason (jasondenness) | 1877 comments My daughter recently joined a young archaeologists club and this is the first day trip she is going on... and as there will be tanks I will be going. hehe
