L.Y. Levand (lylevand) Is anyone else super excited about the movie coming out? I know I am...I trip over everything in my way when a preview comes on, lol.

Cary (vortigern) | 344 comments It looks very good. I can't remeber Elvish Queen Galadrial from the book. Only Elrond,Tom Bombadil, and Smaug the dragon. Bilbo finds Sting in the Barrow, and his mithrael coat of mail?, gets captured by Goblins, finds the wring, meets Gollum, and ecapes. They travel to Mirkwood. I forget what elf lord rules the place. But there is a growing darkness in Mirkwood. Can't remember the Castle. and then to Long Lake, and Lonely Mountain. Damn I need to read that one again.

Sophie (sophierose1990) I am but then, they're making it into three films. I don't know how they're going to stretch the plot across so many films, when you consider how much happens in the book there's only just enough to make one.

But then this is Peter Jackson. He did so well with LOTR, I hope he can do the same for The Hobbit!

message 4: by Cary (last edited Dec 06, 2012 10:35AM) (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 344 comments Oh for sure the Hobbit is a one movie film, or a one long movie film at the most. If he follows the book. Even LOTR did not follow the books exactly. It's all about money. They can't make any more LOTR movies. So they have to play the Hobbit for all the $$$ they can milk out of it. What happend to The Hobbit The War in the North? Is this The Hobbit An Unexpected Journey a sequal to that?

message 5: by L.Y. (new) - added it

L.Y. Levand (lylevand) I just read the book recently, and it seems to me that there were three major happenings in the book; kidnapped by goblins, the death of Smaug, and the battle of five armies. I'm such a die-hard fan that I love that they're doing three movies, instead of just one, lol.

message 6: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 344 comments OK forgot the battle of five armies. So this is the second movie based on The Hobbit? They could have made a movie based on the Silmarillion. I think they did. In the Silmarillion it says after destroying the Elvish island kingdom of Numenor. Sauron then named it Island Of Werewolves becoming a Vampire and master shapeshifter. Then later Sauron falls, and the island is retaken. I think it is after all that happens that God sends Gandalf to earth.

message 7: by Stephen (last edited Dec 09, 2012 07:17AM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Stephen Pearl (stephenp11) | 19 comments The only way the trailer I've seen makes sence and stays true to Tolken is if they include and expand on information in the Apendix of The Lord of the Rings. Remember when Gandaulf leaves Bilbo and the Dwarfs. He is going to join the white councle to confront the Necromancer, who is actually Sauron but whom they suspect is one of the 9. If they show that battle and how it relates to Bilbo and the rest then I could see them eeking it out for a couple of movies.

Ashwina Jha | 9 comments The hobbit is going to absolutely amazing, I'm sure of that. The book was and the trailer doesn't look bad at all.

message 9: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 344 comments Yeah it looks like a good movie. Great actors they choose as well. Using the same main actors as LOTRs movies. Gandalf looks just like a pictured him, Elrond, Galadriel. All well chosen ,and play their roles well.

Tracy A. I'm so looking forward to this and agree with just about everything said above.

Cindy (supercin721) | 4 comments I started rereading it and couldn't believe they were making it into THREE movies BUT, having read these comments, it seems to make more sense. If they add all those details from the appendices, which I have never read, it should be a great ride...for the next 3 years.

message 12: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 344 comments I think this will be the better than the first of the Hobbit movies. Trailers look better anyway. I like the The Fellowship of the Ring the best of the movies based on Lord of the Rings.

message 13: by L.Y. (new) - added it

L.Y. Levand (lylevand) I like Return of the King best, but I've always loved the first part of The Fellowship of the Ring, too.

L.Y. Levand (lylevand) Kathy, I am officially jealous, lol. Enjoy it for me, will you? xD

No. :("

I'm sorry. :( Maybe the second one?

Brittany Leigh (tark_leigh) I walked 4 miles to see it in theaters with my dad, and we spent the whole walk back replaying our favorite parts. My brother's buying it for me for my birthday...

message 21: by L.Y. (last edited Mar 16, 2013 12:10PM) (new) - added it

L.Y. Levand (lylevand) Tarkaneea, was it worth the four miles? I think it would have been for me, lol.

Kathy, if there are not extended editions, I will be displeased, lol. I usually prefer watching movies at home, too, but I missed all three of the LotR movies, so I want to catch all the Hobbit ones. It is far less expensive at home, though, and I'm looking forward to it! Bring on the pizza! :D

Edited because I misspelled your name Tarkaneea. Sorry! xD

Brittany Leigh (tark_leigh) It was definitely worth the four miles. And I like rewatching movies, so owning them makes that a lot easier. And really, what can be better than LotR with pizza?

message 23: by L.Y. (new) - added it

L.Y. Levand (lylevand) Lord of the Rings with pizza, popcorn, and candy? :D (I'm planning a movie night, lol.)

message 24: by L.Y. (new) - added it

L.Y. Levand (lylevand) Lol. I'm gonna gain some weight! So many goodies, lol. The DVD's been ordered, and I'm excited. Can't wait for it to get here! :D

sonya marie madden | 441 comments I want to see it at home. my wife is gonna hate it

johanna (jo) (johannad_m) The Hobbit <3 :D This movie is awesomeness.

So cool that you've bought it! I want to watch it again from the video hire, but we aren't buying it until all three are out - with the extended editions, hopefully :)

message 27: by L.Y. (new) - added it

L.Y. Levand (lylevand) I lack the patience. :) I want to see it, and I want to see it NOW. xD I do really want extended editions, though...

johanna (jo) (johannad_m) L.Y. wrote: "I lack the patience. :) I want to see it, and I want to see it NOW. xD I do really want extended editions, though..."

Haha. Well, we made the mistake of buying LotR without the extended editions (now I'm wanting to buy the extended ones and sell the others :/) so this time I want to make sure we don't make that mistake xD. I'm sure I'll be hiring them out from the video hire more than once before we buy them, though ;)

message 29: by L.Y. (new) - added it

L.Y. Levand (lylevand) Lol. I'd rather buy them twice. It will actually save me money in the long run, since we'd rent them many, many times, and that costs more than it does to just buy a copy. xD (I'm just looking for excuses now, lol.)

Brittany Leigh (tark_leigh) L.Y. wrote: "Lol. I'd rather buy them twice. It will actually save me money in the long run, since we'd rent them many, many times, and that costs more than it does to just buy a copy. xD (I'm just looking for ..."

The only problem my family is having with buying extended versions is that we only have a DVD player (No blu-ray) and finding the extended versions on DVD is extremely difficult.

Really? We only have a DVD player, too, and I don't remember anyone having a problem finding them...that was a while ago, though. Maybe that has something to do with it? Hope you find them.

Don't scare me so! D: They better have them on dvd, or I'm getting blu-ray.

Sorry for the scare, lol. I hope they still have them on DVD, too, since technically the ones I have belong to my parents...

I should probably look into buying my own. xD

Brittany Leigh (tark_leigh) Well, they're out there, it's just pretty expensive. (A lot more expensive than blu-ray in my experience)

message 35: by L.Y. (new) - added it

L.Y. Levand (lylevand) Argh...really? Well. I'll just have to save up, then. 'Cause I'm NOT buying a blu-ray player right now. I can hear the complaints when it comes to hooking one up already...

I wish 3D didn't give me headaches, lol. They shot in 48 frames per second instead of 24, so I guess it's supposed to look that way. I didn't really notice, but then, the first time I watched it I just stared at the screen stupefied that I was finally getting to see it, lol.

And I was surprised, too. At least at how much characterization they squeezed in there. With a starring cast that huge, it's very impressive. Yeah, I had to watch it about six times, but who cares? I love that movie. ^-^ I think I can name, by sight, most of the dwarves now. :D

Impressive! :D I can list all their names, lol, but I only know Bofur, Dwalin, Balin, Bombur, Gloin and Ori by looks :)

For the longest time I couldn't tell Fili and Kili apart, and I had no desire to change it, because everybody seems to like those two and Thorin best. >.< I can tell them apart now, and it bugs me. xD I still get a little confused on some of them, Bifur and Nori in particular. Dori is the one that offers Gandalf tea, Oin is the one with the hearing problem, and Nori is the one with pointed hair. xD Bifur is the one that's left after you add Thorin, Fili, and Kili, which is why I'm always forgetting him.

I think I may need to watch other movies for a while.

johanna (jo) (johannad_m) Oh, right - I forgot Fili, Kili and Thorin xD. I remember them :) Yeah, Fili and Kili are too mainstream :P I don't really have a favourite dwarf. Do you?

Yeah, I'm actually practicing up now :D I think I know Dori. I just need to know Nori, Oin and Bifur :D

I can recite all the riddles, though! (all the book ones :)) :D Can you? I love the riddles.

Nah. Not the riddles, but I have a stockpile of Gollum quotes that I use on a daily basis. xD He's just so much more fun to quote than the others for some reason. I don't really have a favorite dwarf either, although I do like Balin. :) After him the one I know best from the movie is Thorin, but he was such a jerk to Bilbo that I can't bring myself to like him too much. xD

Kathy wrote: "Kili was incredibly hot in the film. I could be inspired to take up hobbit fetish for that one!"

Which is precisely why he's not among the ones I really like. xD

Yes ^ lol

Right. I had a Tolkien memorizing day yesterday xD
I can now recognize and name all 13 dwarves off by heart ... I think P:
I know the words to Pippin's song.
I know all the riddles and the answers.
And I memorized that poem from the Fellowship - the Road goes ever on and on etc.

I just love all the poetry ... :) I want to memorize the One Ring thing. You know; Seven rings for the elven kings etc.

Oh, Gollum is brilliant :) Favourite of his quotes? :D
I don't really have a favourite dwarf either. Maybe Balin. Maybe Thorin. Not sure P:

message 45: by L.Y. (new) - added it

L.Y. Levand (lylevand) There's so much to memorize, too! The riddles, the songs, the poems...I know the Ring poem, and I probably know more, if I really think about it. I've never actively tried to memorize anything but that one poem and the thirteen dwarves, but I think I'd like to memorize that long one Bilbo did in The Fellowship of the Ring when he was in Rivendell.

I don't have a favorite! D: I use 'mustn't ask us, not its business' 'they stole it from us' and 'nasty hobbitses' the most, though. xD

The problem I have is that I LOVED him in The Hobbit, but despised him in LotR. :/ Yet I quote him from both all the time. *shrugs* His quotes, though, I really like from both. :)
