Chojun is one of the best books I have ever read. In my opinion, this work of historical fiction, that has been meticulously researched. The book paints a picture of life on Okinawa before, during, and after World War II. It’s a story of reverence, the coming of age, love, tragedy, war, and honor. A retired Okinawa karate instructor, Kenichi Ota, writes memoirs of training with world-famous master, Chojun Miyagi, their struggle for survival, and their final battle to keep the master’s art alive for future generations. The master is Chojun Miyagi (the real Mr. Miyagi rather than the Hollywood legend.) Miyagi created Goju Ryu Karate, a style practiced today by millions around the world, and the author, Goran Powell, is a 4th dan instructor in this style. Even if you know nothing about martial arts, you will enjoy this book....it's just a great read.
I loved this book as it gives a more personal insight into the Pacific war that was fought after the bombing of Pearl Harbour. How it affected the founding father of Goju karate, his students and the island of Okinawa. An amazing moving and very thought provoking book.
Rreally looking forward to more books by this author.
Kindle will be out very soon so hold out a bit longer if that's what you want! Thanks for your interest Dutch, i hope you enjoy it x
