Amazon UK has once again dropped the "free" status from The Prophecy. Can I ask a favor? Remind Amazon that the book exists elsewhere at a lower price.

Barnes & Noble UK: http://uk.nook.com/ebooks/bakkian-chr...

Amazon UK: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bakkian-Chron...

Thanks!

Big J

Elizabeth Reported Jeffrey,

Here are the links for WH Smith in the UK (kobo books partner) and iTunes UK as well and I've also reported them

http://whsmith.co.uk/EProducts/Bakkia...

https://itunes.apple.com/gb/book/bakk...

Cheers

message 56: by Mia (new)

Mia Darien (mia_darien) | 425 comments I went through and reported everyone's books/links that weren't already free. Good luck to all! And am I the only one who thinks Amazon is just a little ridiculous in all this? :P

message 57: by Jeffrey, Lentarian Fire Thrower (new)

Jeffrey Poole (authorjmpoole) | 2287 comments Mod
Not by a long shot, Mia. :) This is the second time in as many months that Bakkian 1 was dropped off the free category. Germany is off and on, too. Go figure.

message 58: by Eric (new)

Eric Quinn (eqknowles) I reported all 3 links for you, Jeffrey.

I suspect that Amazon is not a fan of permanently free, now that so many people are using that strategy. From their perspective, there is an abundance of free content that is perhaps diluting the power of their KDP promotions. I think the perma-free option is one of the main reasons that Amazon is snubbing Smashwords. By the end of 2013, I think we are going to be working a lot harder to keep our free content free.

Jeffrey Poole (authorjmpoole) | 2287 comments Mod
Can't see why Amazon would have a problem with it. More downloads of book 1 means more sales of books 2 & 3. That, by definition, means more $$$ for them.

That's alright. I will keep pestering them until they put it back. And thanks for reporting the links, Eric!

Eric Quinn (eqknowles) congrats!

I think I'm about to give up on making Myriad free on Amazon. It's not that it won't become free - it just won't stick. It's off and on on Amazon UK, and it just stopped being free on Amazon US for no reason I can understand. I can keep trying to make it free, but if it doesn't stick I can't really promote the free book with ads or in any way. Someone could click on an ad and it will have a price. Maybe I should just charge for the damn thing and be done with it. I don't know. Not asking for anything, just having a whinge. I might just stop making it free everywhere soon, and see how it goes.

message 64: by Eric (new)

Eric Quinn (eqknowles) I feel your pain.

message 65: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks :) I just set the book to not free with my distributor. Eventually the price will update and I can just forget about this free thing. I don't need the headache.

Mona, I always found it better to do very short, limited, highly-targeted free promotions anyway. You can always set the price on the first book low rather than free, if you want to use a "loss leader" approach.

message 67: by J.D. (new)

J.D. Hallowell | 247 comments I'm trying to help my books get a little traction on Amazon outside of the US, so I've set Dragon Fate to free on Kobo for Canada, Europe, and Japan.

The Kobo link is here:

http://www.kobobooks.com/ebook/Dragon...

The Amazon links to report a lower price are:

France: http://www.amazon.fr/Dragon-Fate-eboo...

Canada: http://www.amazon.ca/Dragon-Fate-War-...

Japan: http://www.amazon.co.jp/Dragon-Fate-W...

Thanks for the help!

I wanted to set my first Episode of my series to just 45 cents, but 99 cents is the minimum it allows normally.

I went to report the link, but on Kobo it is saying 4.99. Not sure if there is a time delay or something though.

It's because you aren't in one of the regions where it's free, and Kobo automatically displays the price for your region based on your ISP - they don't have separate links for different areas. Thanks, though - Ammy price matched everywhere it was supposed to.

Karen A. Wyle (kawyle) | 81 comments I'd love some help getting my short story The Library free on Amazon! It's free on Smashwords at https://www.smashwords.com/books/view....

Now I'll scroll up and start reporting others' books.

Karen A. Wyle (kawyle) | 81 comments Every one I try to report is already free! (I think I'm clicking the right link. . . .) I hope this works as well for my little book! (Sometime next month, when I release Reach, I'll be making the predecessor novel Twin-Bred free on Smashwords, and I'd dearly love for Amazon to price-match.)

Talitha Kalago (talithakalago) | 2 comments Hey guys, I am wondering if people can report my book too? It's FREE on other retailers.

I will go up the list and report all books that haven't already been price matched.

Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Lifesphere-INC-...

And Kobo:
http://www.kobobooks.com/ebook/Lifesp...

If no one minds, I may come back and add a B&N and/or apple link later, if Amazon doesn't respond.

message 80: by Mia (new)

Mia Darien (mia_darien) | 425 comments Okies, I fell way behind, but I went through and checked, and reported all the still-not-free ones that I could!

message 81: by Talitha (new)

Talitha Kalago (talithakalago) | 2 comments Hi Nicholas,

Most people are reporting that amazon doesn't care much about smashwords and you should try and get your books onto B&N, Kobo or Apple.

I will report anyway though!

Sean McLachlan | 68 comments The Quintessence of Absence has been free on Smashwords for some time now

I'd love to make it free on Amazon, so please report that you found a lower price elsewhere

I'd be happy to return the favor, and I'd love to hear any input if you read the book!

Lana Axe (lana_axe) | 45 comments You just scroll down to below the sales rank where it says "tell us about a lower price". I reported mine myself as well as others. It took about a week to change to free. I grabbed a copy of your book for my nook. It sounds good. :)

message 95: by Mark (new)

Mark Bondurant (mbondr) | 22 comments This is all great, but what is permafree? As far as I know, you can't do that on KDP. Ninty nine cents is the lower limit. You can set it to free using the Select Giveaway option once every three months.

message 96: by Karen (new)

Karen A. Wyle (kawyle) | 81 comments Mark, unless something has changed quite recently, one can indeed have a book either permanently free or free for months or years at a time on Amazon, so long as their 'bots are convinced that it's free elsewhere.

message 97: by Mark (new)

Mark Bondurant (mbondr) | 22 comments Neat! How do I convince their bots? Is there a resubmit for spidering site, like for web sites in Google? Or do I just lower it everywhere and then keep trying until it takes?

message 98: by Karen (new)

Karen A. Wyle (kawyle) | 81 comments Mark, as far as I know, you just get as many people as possible (including yourself) to click the "tell us about a lower price" link on the book's Amazon page (just above the Customer Reviews).
