Utley's book is another, completely distinct rhetorical construction. Every book that I have read of Utley's has a completely different way the language and organization. It is a bit uncanny. For instance, Tuchman's books seem to have the same structure, book to book. Utley's are each constructed in a unique way and Geronimo is different than any others. I have yet to read Lance and Shield. But the Custer:Cavalier... immediately goes into the way in which Custer was portrayed. In Geronimo, this is also a major theme but Utley does not emphasis explaining the myth behind the legend so much. It is perhaps that each book captures in some way the personal life of the Author...there is a great care in expression throughout all the books, more so than almost all other writers and certainly outstanding among Historical writers.
