Spanxmcb (Yovanka) (spanxmcb) | 3 comments Hi I'm Yovanka and I live in Toronto, Canada. I spent a few years away from reading, but I re-kindled my love a few years back through e-reading (no pun intended)!

I will read just about anything as long as it holds my interest. My guilty pleasure is reading pulpy, trashy fiction (kinda like watching tv, but better because it's a book)!

Favourite Book or Author?! Gah! That's tough.

Author: I'd say Jane Austen....but I also really love Ann-Marie McDonald.

Book: Pride and Prejudice and The Color Purple...and this list could get very long!

Looking forward to recommendations and reviews!

Welcome Yovanka. I love Pride and Prejudice too. Did you read Jane Eyer? The Bronte Sisters are great, and if you are a Austen fan ... I think you will liked. Also, The help is a great book who talks about the same subjet of The color purple

Tala Solh Hi, I'm Tala. I'm from Lebanon and I live in Lebanon. I've been reading since I was 5 years old. However, I discovered my passion for this hobby when I was in grade 8. Now, I'm a freshman and I still read vigorously. I can't pass a day without reading even if it is a page. Actually, sometimes i finish a novel in one night. My mother tells me that if reading were a job, I would be extremely rich by now.
My favorite genre is romantic. I also read suspense and fiction.
My favorite author is Judith McNaught. But, I read all her novels. And I'm impatiently waiting for her to write a new one.

Tala, you sound a lot like me at your age. I think I was one of only a few kids who actually looked forward to the required reading in school. Some books I didn't enjoy, especially during my junior year, but for the most part I did.

A. Loconte (aloconte) | 1 comments Hi guys, my name is Tony and I am an author. I recently released my first book, a memoir titled "Dirt Roads". I think you could argue that parts of it make Dave Peltzers "A Boy Called IT" seem like a dream.

I live in PA with my wife and 5 kids. We own a small farm with horses, alpacas, skunks, and Llamas. One we named "Michelle O'Llama".

My favorite author would probably be King, I like how he picks those small little phobias to exploit in his stories.

Great to connect, Linda. I'm Dale Swanson from Minnesota. My historical fiction novel "The Thirty-ninth Man" follows my fictional character as he grows from self-focus to self-denial as he weaves through history and becomes involved in the largest mass execution in US history.

Few understand the death of thirty-eight men on December 26, 1862, and fewer still know that one man received a last-minute pardon from President Lincoln. The thirty-ninth man sentenced to die was named by Lincoln as Tatemina--Round Wind. The reason for his imprisonment and subsequent pardon are factual, my fictional story brings the human element to the front while honoring the facts from this time in Minnesota's history.

Many historically accurate accounts as the story follows my fictional character through little known yet real events of the time. The teaser is—One rope cut-38 Dakota Sioux die–Largest mass execution in US history–Lincoln pardons 1—The Thirty-ninth Man by D.A. Swanson.

I am new to Goodreads but eager to meet new friends and exchange knowledge and resources with other authors. You can find my book on my website, http://joydwilliams.net and on Amazon.

Judith Horton-holm (judiem) | 16 comments I have read " Light between Oceans" some time ago and I have just recently seen the movie starring Alicia Syverson and Michael Fassbender. It has remained pretty close to the book and it became alive for me. Just so well done! The reviews were not as stellar, however this was a pondering rather dark story revealing the morals of the time. The stars playing the 2 characters have since become lovers themselves. All in all, it was an afternoon well spent!

message 1800: by A. (new)

A. White | 18 comments May wrote: "Agree with all of you!! The book is most often better than the movie, especially when the wrong person is cast in the lead!!" Exactly, the person often playing the leading role looks nothing like as described in the book. For those of us who read the book are looking for that character by certain features in the movie and sometime the movie has gone on for a few minutes before you say "Hey, that's so and so." I understand it is difficult to make a movie exactly by a book but I have seen some I was disappointed with the drastic changes.
