David Bradburn (dwb42461) | 4 comments Past Lives, Present Woes is David’s first novel and can be found on Amazon.com either in paperback or for digital download.

Book Description

David Jr. and Jonathon have spent many lifetimes together. Two of these are found within the pages of Past Lives, Present Woes as they work through the many challenges of trying to maintain an interracial gay relationship. Readers will discover two stories that have similar personal freedom struggles, yet, they are placed in two separate historically, Southern time periods. This is not your typical love story. Characters in both stories work to free themselves of karmic debt and try to understand the evolution of spirit as seen through eternal lenses. The reincarnation theme is, often times, diluted by the profoundly Western religious belief systems found in the southern United States. However, the characters in both books of this novel are directly linked by their stories playing out in two distinctly different lifetimes. Also, this work of fiction delves into the sexually dynamic relationships where youth, inequality, and unconventional expressions thrive to balance out the power struggles predetermined by past lifetimes. Each chapter comes to life by the story being told by a new character. This is not a collection of short stories, but, will engage the reader as they meet each new character, moving the novel to its final destination.

Paperback copy is $14.99 or Digital E-reader version is $9.99. Posting the link for anyone interested in southern gay fiction.

Diamond Drake (diamondthewriter) Hello Book Lovers, my name is Diamond Drake and I'm posting from northern CA. It's hard to choose a favorite author but I'm gonna go with Nicholas Sparks. The Notebook is one of my all time favorites. Is it shameful to name myself? Oh well, I've done it now? ha,ha,ha. Seriously, though, I'm a fairly new author of three romantic/dramatic works. Being on Goodreads has been wonderful and I'm being exposed to new, really talented writers that I may never have had the pleasure of reading otherwise. I hope to chat with members of the group soon.

I have a novel coming out this summer about women's spirituality, incest, growth, which is narrated by a ghost. I'm a Toni Morrison wanna be. No, just to step into her shadow would be something.

My favorite author? Wow, too many to list.

Anne (annelouisetaylor) | 1 comments Hi, my name is Anne and I'm from Cape Town, South Africa. Nothing beats lying curled up on the couch reading a good book...I don't have a particular favorite author, although if I had to choose one book it would be Wuthering Heights. I enjoy reading a wide range of books, including 19C British literature and contemporary African literature. I love reading books from different parts of the world as it enables me to put myself in other people's shoes without necessarily traveling there (although that would be nice!).

Have you read To Kill A Mockingbird? You may have seen the movie but the book is a great read and so true to those days in the South in Monroeville, Alabama. It is making some news now as Harper Lee, the author who by the way only penned that one book, is suing her agent who it seems tricked her into selling the rights to the novel. I am anxious to see what happens in this case. This happened with agents up until not so long ago when they could end up taking the biggest profits from their talented clients and leaving the artist in dire straits. Gregory Peck, the lead actor in the movie based on To Kill A Mockingbird, claimed it to be his most prized part of all time. It is a great read. My novel, The Royal Rose of Alabama is listed in Goodreads and is on the giveaway program if you want to try for it. Good Luck.

Donna | 3 comments Hi Everyone! I am Donna and live in Ontario, Canada. my favourite books lately are spiritual and any fiction books that are well written. How does your group work, do we all read the same book at the same time? and discuss it? I love to read, it is my escape from reality.

message 1095: by Marian (new)

Marian Powell | 27 comments You will love Goodreads as your virtual library by listing all the books that you can remember reading and those that you would like to read. Welcome aboard! As I told C.J. earlier, I wish I had know about Goodreads while I was doing research for my book, "The Royal Rose of Alabama". I would be able to go back then when I start on a sequel and double check facts. My book has scriptures but it is a novel with a strong story line with moral concepts. You can start a conversation about a book but I tried and got no responses. Not quite sure how to get a good conversation going. Goodreads frowns on authors trying to promote their own book in these comment areas or in recommendation areas. We can run ads or give away books to hopefully get reviews. I gave away 15 books this month. Waiting on reviews. I hope!! I wish that I had more time to get lost in books for I do enjoy reading. I read one or two per month at most. Just finished reading Birth Cry, a memoir of a Midwife. Godly woman who saved the lives of many mothers and their babies. It was written by another Alabama author. I have a great niece in Ontario, who matter of fact, was my first editor. Well, again, hope you enjoy Goodreads.

My niece lives very close to downtown, by the water. I have only visited one time, on the occasion of her son's christening. Would love to go back. Oops, wrong.....I have been twice, once on a road trip with my hubby, pulling a camper, and had to stay outside the city in an RV park on the lake. Loved Canada. Went on to Quebec thinking that would be as near France as I would ever be...but....since then several trips to Europe doing research for my novel, and to Paris three times. Umm...I am longing to go back.Hope this day finds you reading a good book. To the garden I go.
