Marian Powell | 27 comments Hi Karl,How exciting that you were in Vienna. I really enjoyed my visit there last year. Congrats on being able to introduce you new Novel. Like you, I like the movie, "The Third Man". I caught it on TV after visiting Vienna and wished that I had seen it before me trip. I did recognize many scenes though. Congrats on you new book. Mine is at the printers as I write and then the real work starts!

Jon (jfcab) Im Jon from Iloilo, Philippines. Aside from looking up to Miss O as an inspiration I have also grown and become an avid reader just recently when I stumbled upon a quote from Confucius that goes: ''No matter how busy you may think you are, you must find time for reading or surrender yourself to self-chosen ignorance.'' This concept encouraged me to devour books from different genres and periods. What I find very interesting is that every book I have read has a relation to my life - or LIFE per se - from the past until this very moment. Each stories and lessons has become part of me one way or another. That's why I consider reading similar to traveling and learning the world at my convenience! Hope to find great books here! God bless everyone!

Willett Thomas | 7 comments Hello, my name is Willett. I'm originally from D.C., but recently moved to Baltimore, Maryland. I'm very old school when it comes to favorite authors: Hemingway, Capote, Faulkner, Morrison, etc. New writer I like a lot, Edward P. Jones.

message 1004: by Marian (new)

Marian Powell | 27 comments Hi Willett,
I am new to Goodreads as of this month also. I am glad to finally be challenged to try to get to a place where I will log in the books I am reading and try to with time, list a lot of them read in the past, even though that will be impossible. I am a new author myself and find it very interesting to read what other people enjoy reading. Like you, I am from the old school. I will be in D.C. the end of the month and will attend the National Cathedral for early Easter Service. Hope you enjoy Goodreads.

message 1005: by Anita (new)

Anita | 1 comments I would recommend everyone to get the books My Brother Ron, and I'm Not Tiger by James B. Cisneros for their next books to read. They are available on Amazon.

Howdy Marian,
It is great to have a place where I can share what books I love and also introduce my novel, Raised by the Hand, Lifted by the Tides to people who really love their books, and hopefully to get a little encouragement and guidance with my writing.

Enjoy your day. It's rainy here in Baltimore :-(

Hi Willett, thank you for commenting to me. I will download your book "Raised by the Hands, Lifted by the Tides from Amazon. Can hardly wait. My e-reader bit the dust last week and I am going to order a new one and this will be the first book that I download. I read the reviews and they are very good. Sure hope that my novel, "The Royal Rose of Alabama," will receive as good first 2 reviews as yours. Hopefully I can let you know when it hits Amazon and perhaps you will return the favor and review mine. I will let you know as soon as I read your book. Good luck.

I'm looking forward to reading/reviewing Royal Rose of Alabama, too. I just got finished watching the Tutors on Netflix, so I'm in the mode.

Can't wait to read your review.

Bonnie Harrison | 5 comments Hello, This is Bonnie Harrison and Gleycia Green. We have been partners for 15 years and have just co-authored a book. I am from Ontario and G is from Florida. I have great respect for Ms. Atwood a fellow Canadian, but sometimes need a story that makes me laugh. We both enjoy many of the spiritual authors featured on Super Soul Sunday!!

DeAngela (mizzde) | 2 comments Hello all,

My name is DeAngela and I am a resident of Seattle, WA.

I honestly cant say that I have a favorite author or even a favorite type of book. I have always been a reader and can find something in every format to read.

I love to read both from my kindle and hard copy books. I basically feel if I have to spend more than $8 or $9 I want the hard copy.

I am joining this group for a couple of reasons.
1. To possibly meet new people who enjoy reading as much as I do
2. To discuss some of the books I have read and to maybe to get some ideas of new books to read.
3. To keep up with Oprah's book clubs, there were several books I wanted to read, but I couldn't remember the names of them, hopefully I will find them here.

Happy Reading.
De

Irene (reniemarie) | 3 comments My name is Irene and I am a divorced 32 y/o Library Clerk & single mom from upstate NY. I just have to say how much I am loving this book! Another book I read recently that was on Oprah's list of top ten must reads books in her magazine (or something like that) is The Poisonwood Bible. That was good too. But The 12 Tribes of Hattie is amazing! I am almost finished and really I don't want it to end. What to read next!? Since those two recommendations were accurate I think I will try another...any suggestions from fellow goodreaders?

Linda Johnson wilson | 2 comments Hi, my name is Linda Wilson and I enjoy reading when the mood strikes. At the present time I am attending Full Sail University for a BFA in Creative Writing For the Entertainment Industry. My initial goal was to hone my writing skills. I am working on a book of poems and essays. The last book I read was The Twelve Tribes of Hattie. I am mixed on this one, there were parts that I liked but most of it was confusing. The end was the most confusing. Two of my favorite authors are James McBride and Ashley Fontainne.

Or you can read "The Sheltering Sky" by Paul Bowles. He and his wife were good friends of Carla Grissmann while they were all in Tangiers after WW II. It's a really great desert novel.

I have really begun to enjoy my e-reader, especially while traveling. Michelle Carpenter | 1 comments Hi O Readers!

I'm Michelle. And hell YES! I want y'all to know about my YA book. Well...OUR YA book: I wrote it and my eldest--a girl named Austin--did the chapter-heading illustrations (lil' brainteasers) and the five funky-cool paintings within the pages. It's a summer-camp adventure that twists into an eerie fairytale, proving girls can kick serious butt--especially for a friend. Southerners BEWARE.

It's in the "giveaway" for Canada NOW. Hope you win! (A second US "giveaway" coming in the beginning of May.)

Oh, PLEASE use your clicking finger and check us out on Facebook.

And check us out on Goodreads.

I read a lot of genre stuff, but I also enjoy literary work as well. My favorite literary book is probably The Elephant Vanishes, by Haruki Murakami.

Nice to meet everyone!

message 1043: by Laurie (new)

Laurie Stinebaugh | 1 comments My name is Laurie from Woodstock, MD. No, not the naked concert, albeit sounds like fun. My favorite author is Tolkein because, as a youth, his were the first books to make me feel invested in what I was reading. From there I've felt connected to books that lead me into worlds and cultures foreign to my own upbringing. That includes any genre from fantasy to non-fiction. There is nothing more satisfying about a book, for me, than to have felt I experienced a VIP pass inside something I would never otherwise have experienced.

Lorrea - WhatChaReadin'? (whatchatreadin) Laurie--where is Woodstock?? I'm in MD too!
