That is a great book that I haven't read in many years...maybe it's time for a re-read. Another good book in the same genre is "Sounder," which is also a pretty good movie.

I read it so long ago, but the characters and story are still with me. I love books about women's struggles, their strength, and what they're learning on their journey.
