I have more than one favorite book but I loved The Secret Life of Bee's
One of my favorite authors is James Patterson the Alex Cross series. I just finished reading Dubliners by James Joyce, so I like alot of different genres.
Looking foward to reading The Twelve Tribes of Hattie...

message 603: by Roberta (new)

Roberta Wunder | 2 comments I'm Roberta, I joined from Plymouth, Indiana.

My all time favorite author is Rex Stout. Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin are old friends of mine.

Oddly enough my favorite book is not a Stout novel but "To Kill a Mockingbird". Scout reminds me alot of myself at that age so I feel for her.

Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum novels make me laugh out loud. Sue Grafton's Kinsey Milhone and I go way back. Patricia Cornwell's Kay Scarpetta is like family and John Sandford's Lucas Davenport is my hero.

My favorite gifts to give or receive are books.

SerenaBeReading (reenuhgee) Hey I'm Serena residing in Charlotte, NC. I work in a library which from the time I was a little girl was a dream lol. I love urban fiction, YA and biographies. My goal next year is to read more classics. I'm only into the second chapter of The Twelve Tribes of Hattie right now and I'm already in love with it. It has tugged at my heart strings already.

message 612: by Linda (new)

Linda (mspianobug) Good Morning Everyone: I live in East Toronto and looking to start a little "in person" book group to meet once a month. Would be lovely if someone on this group was in the area and wanted to join us.

I finished Hattie in only a couple of sittings. Just could NOT put it down. Now have read the reading guide and Oprah's notes.

We couldn't put it down either, the first passage just pulled at our emotional strings. Glad to hear you enjoyed the read, what would you say are some of your favorite parts of the novel?

message 617: by Jim (new)

Jim Burns | 1 comments Hi my name is Jim Burns and I'm from San Gabriel, Calif., just south of Pasadena.

Just finished Erik Larson's "In the Garden of Beasts," which chronicles the early years of Hitler in Berlin through the eyes of a U.S. ambassador. Amazing read.

message 618: by Helen (new)

Helen | 2 comments Hi. I'm Helen from New Zealand. I tend to read a lot of crime fiction - but I'm trying to broaden my horizons by joining good reads and this book club. I'm a teacher and it's our summer holiday so the perfect opportunity. Loving the book so far.

message 619: by Linda (new)

Linda (mspianobug) OBC: Thank you. The first passage was such an OMGosh moment that it stunned, if you will, to really a great need to read more. You were looking for a redeeming feature "somewhere".

This writer is very young but has such an understanding of human nature that it is hard to believe in someone so young. I would love to tell some of my favourite parts but I am afraid of ruining the story for others. There are so many parts that have great meaning and depth.

There is one for me though and I will have to tell it after everyone has finished reading.
