Elizabeth (merelyreading) I loved To Kill a Mockinbird too - studied it for O Level English Lit and amazingly came out the other side still loving it!

And crime novels are probably my favourite genre. Have you read The Cuckoo's Calling? I was a bit sceptical about J K Rowling as a writer for adults, but she's proved herself completely with her first two novels, and this one in particular I thoroughly enjoyed.

Welcome to Book Vipers Mel. I haven't read very much crime, just lots of other genres.

I agree, I though Harry Potter was ok, Philip Pullman's trilogy was much better. however The Casual Vacancy was fantastic, just bought the Cuckoo's Calling.

Debbie (debbiegregory) | 585 comments Hi Mel, welcome to Book Vipers. I'm a newbie too! I will read pretty much anything, I love books. Favourite genres are classic and contemporary fiction, history, science, current affairs, politics, biography (historical figures rather than celeb ones).
Happy reading!!

Les Mis is the dog danglies!! Also Jude the obscure is one of my faves.
Love Dickens, Hardy, Brontes, Austen, Henry James, Elizabeth Gaskell, Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky, Dumas.
So many books, so little time... Sigh!!!

Forgot Wilkie Collins.. How could I forget Wilkie Collins!! He's the best. I'm going to put myself on the naughty step for the rest of the day :(

message 1008: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (merelyreading) Wilkie Collins is the best, and Trollope :)

Oscar Wilde is probably my all time favorite just for being Oscar Wilde, haha. I'm actually going to Dublin this summer just so I can see his house and geek out over all the Oscar Wilde stuff they'll have there.

Les Mis is one of those books that I finish and then can't start anything else for a day or two because it sticks with you. I think I like Tess more than Jude, but they are both in my top 20.

Hi Mel, and welcome to Book Vipers! To Kill a Mocking Bird has been on my to read list forever - I'm looking forward to reading it for the group readalong sometime this year.

Same here! Since joining a few weeks ago I've read more than usual, and more variety too, and I'm really enjoying it. Just finished a fantastic book (Mountains of the Mind: A History of a Fascination) and now trying to decide what to read next.

message 1014: by Mel (new)

Mel | 43 comments I might try that one then, it's nice to read new genres of books that you never would of normally dreamed of reading :)

message 1017: by Penny (new)

Penny (mrsmorrisreads) | 5 comments Hi! I'm Steph, I'm 25 and I live in Manchester. Bit nervous if I'm honest, I joined Goodreads over a month ago but decided it was about time I got stuck in! I love books and I love reading and wanted to meet some like-minded people. I'm up for any recommendations and I'll give anything a go but I particularly like to read modern classics. I also love a good memoir, a strong heroine and anything beautifully written. Besides reading I love art, design and fashion, particularly vintage and I enjoy drawing and making my own clothes from time to time.

Hi Steph, welcome to Book Vipers. You will be among like minded people here.
Some of the group are reading The Hare With Amber Eyes: A Hidden Inheritance which is a family and historical memoir, if you are interested in joining in.
Feel free to have a look through my read list for any recommendations.

Nicole | 7 comments Hi all. I'm Nicole. I enjoy reading Chinese and Japanese literature, business books, and have recently decided that I need to revisit the classics. I've been an avid reader since childhood. Sad to say, however, that I can't remember all the books I've read nor all the authors I've read although I liked them.

Hi Everyone,

I also just joined your group. I have a bad/good habit of reading a few books at a time. I love reading contemporary fiction and biographies but I am also interested in the classics. I am a college teacher in business - so I read a lot of non-fiction and business books as well.

Looking forward cyber-meeting members here. Jessica.

Charlotte Rix | 1 comments Hi All!

I am Charlotte. I love reading but often choose it as the last thing to do... Probably because it makes me tired! I have joined in order to encourage me to pick up books more often and it is already working! Just started reading The Rosie Project. Saw that it was your read for April and as I am a slow reader thought it best to start ahead!

Nice to meet you all!

X
