My daughter bought me the book for Christmas a couple years ago. Then when the movie came out, I took her. This has to be one of the best books I've ever read. I actually believed that it was a real story until Meercat Island. That I couldn't swallow. I had to go look it up on the net to confirm it was fiction. The movie? Amazing. My first 3D experience, and it was awesome to see the tiger challenging Pi at times in 3D.
I liked the book but I felt sad when Pi was stranded in the Ocean :(
I only watched the movie xD I haven't read this book yet, but I plan too.
It's pretentious. Annoyingly so. The main character is an irritating smarmy precocious twit who is the only slightly substantially fleshed out character in the whole damn thing.
The author also backed away from a potentially interesting exploration of three major faiths, their differences and the way that the main character resolved the differences in them and the exclusivity of them. Instead we got a lukewarm, shallow and to be honest lame meeting of three religious people.
Wow.
It was awesome. Yeah.
Go read Khaled Hossein, he's worth your time.
