"Where are you going to next?"
"You need to ask that question?"
Nathaniel entered, returned several books, and taking out a book on the Third Reich(not that he was a Nazi supporter, more of an admirer of their technology), he settled in a dark corner of the library, with a faint clip-on light for light.
Adara walked in swiftly, stopping to smile softly at the librarian, who gave a happy one in return. Fluffing the ends of her red hair, she directed herself through the mazes of what was to be bookshelves. Her eyelashes dangerously flitted back and forth, scanning the titles as she walked by. Books always had an effect on her. How they beckoned enticingly, with their spines and the crisp sound of a page turned by eager fingers. Adara bit her lip nervously as she approached the dark area of the library. Such dark knowledge filled the bookshelves now; crime, kidnapping, and other psychopathic topics. As she reached the end, her eyes adjusted at the sudden sight of a dim light. She walked closer, her footsteps softly padding against the carpet. Yes, it was the boy, immersed in some book concerning the Nazis. "Excuse me," she asked politely in her crisp, British accent. "You left me a note suggesting this area, so I assumed you wanted to meet me here?" She crossed her arms across her chest, feeling self-conscious that her flaming, red hair was drawing sudden attention in the slight dark.
Nathaniel looked up. "Ah, yes. I believe I did. Good of you to come into such a... sinister part of the library. I am Nathaniel, last name will be of no interest. And you are...?", Nathaniel asked, raising an eyebrow as he stood up and stuck out his hand.
Adara looked around nervously, gnawing on her bottom lip. "Um...A-Adara..." She hesitantly accepted his handshake.
"Please, take a seat. No need to have fear, no one is here that's armed or lurking. If you're wondering, I'm not a Nazi supporter, merely fascinated by their advanced technology", Nathaniel informed her, sitting down and setting the clip-on light in the middle, between them.
Adara daintily sat down, crossing her legs. She propped her right arm by the elbow at the table, her hand cupping her cheek nonchalantly. The dim light did the opposite of eradicating her pretty features; it only enhanced them, making her blue eyes shine. She pursed her lips thoughtfully, taking in her surroundings.
"Well Adara, can I tell you what I have deduced from the past half hour about you? You are Irish, obviously from Dublin. You are a rather quiet, serious girl, most likely to observe than to speak out. Your intellect is genetic. You are pursuing a career in astrophysics, and would rather show intellect in work than in raising a hand in the air and answering every single question asked. Am I correct so far?", Nathaniel asked.
Adara started to open her mouth, but stopped midway. She couldn't believe it. He can't have known so much about her in such little time. She stared at him, dumbfounded.
"I'll take it from your expression that I am correct. To continue on, your parents are most likely scientists. I am assuming that you have siblings, two, I think. Probably sisters, for if they were male, you wouldn't be as much as an open book. Due to the slight indent on your writing hand, I'll assume that you are also taking literature, most likely a minor if you are taking astrophysics as a career", Nathaniel finished.
Adara struggled to find a response to his profound analysis of her.
Nathaniel smiled. He was used to the effect that people had from his observing skills. "What can you deduce from me?", Nathaniel asked.
"Um...you're exceedingly great at providing metacognition based on your observations," she uncertainly offered in her quiet voice.
"And?", Nathaniel asked, betraying no emotion.
Adara sighed, exasperated. "Erm....you're extremely intelligent?" Compared to his detailed studies of her, her analysis was meager in quality and quantity. She absentmindedly tapped at her watch, seeing it was half past 2 in the mid-afternoon. Sudden realization hit her as her eyes flew open, exposing her blue irises. She was late for the session of time she devoted to studying and homework. "Hey...er..look...I'm...really late for something...."

"Ah, your study session, no? Taking your appearance and the urgency of your one, I can tell that you obviously do not have a date in mind, or a meeting of a friend. Very well, Adara. You may go to your session, as I also have something to do. But keep this in mind, Adara, I watch people with keen personalities", Nathaniel said, getting up and disappearing into the bookshelves, along with the clip-on light.

Adara stared after his retreating back, astounded. She shook herself out of her daze and continued her urgent peregrination to a desk with a lighter, sunnier aspect to it than the corner Nathaniel had insisted. She gasped at the sudden contact of light, squinting away. Soon after, though, she told herself to just push through it and force her blue eyes to grow accustomed to the brightness. Within moments, she was huddled over A Brief History of Time, a novel written by her greatest role model, Stephen Hawking.
Nathaniel faintly smiled. She had fallen for his illusion trick. He often did that when his parents were talking about things that concerned him. He glanced at his watch. Half past 2. He had approximately 15 minutes to watch her before leaving for Advanced Math. He pulled a Math textbook out of the shelf and began reading, every so often glancing at Adara. 'A rather determined young woman. Determined to prove something to someone... Perhaps overachieving parents...', Nathaniel mused.
Adara felt a gaze pinned at her huddled back. She was used to it. No matter where she went, there was always someone who looked at her as if she was eccentric. After a few more minutes of reading the last few words of the last chapter, though, she frowned slightly. This gaze was different; it incited her to want to shield herself. Slowly turning, her blue eyes narrowed in on Nathaniel. Of course... She did not say anything, nor did she offer anything that was affable. She was greatly exasperated by his analysis of her, as if she was a topic he was to be researching for an essay. She only raised an eyebrow, as if asking him if he minded. Sighing, she turned back to her studies, beginning with a Chemistry book she had already memorized by heart.

Nathaniel glanced at his watch. 15 to 3. He took a tissue, scribbled Those who seem eccentric are really the most interesting. Don't be bothered by it. Then, casually dropping it beside her as he passed her, he left the library for his class.

Adara glanced at the tissue and her eyes quickly made to read the message. Oh, so now she was eccentric? She bit her lip, annoyed. And he even had the nerve to say she shouldn't be bothered by it. Well, whatever. She didn't care. She was used to it, wasn't she? Strangely, though, she felt tears prick at her blue eyes. She angrily denied her desolation silently, not believing this to be her reactions to it. Think about physics, she urged herself, but his note struck a nerve in her. Perhaps it might have been Nathaniel who allowed her to succumb to despondency. Maybe it might have been the whole serenity of the silent communication which incited her to want to scream. It might even have been the whole setting itself- college. Either way, she gathered up her books and left the library for her dormitory, determined not to let the tears fall. At least until she was safe and sound in her dormitory, huddled under her blanket covers.
