If I did it, I'd give all the money to Child's Play. I don't like that it's Windows only with DRM, even if I prefer to use steam anyways.

Maybe I'm just being dumb about it. If you have Windows and want those games it certainly is a good deal.

Yeah I prefer to use Steam as well, what do you think to the new Big Picture they are doing, I think I will enjoy it for some games the platformers mostly, just love the fact that they have put on another sale for it, my games are just piling up.

I have a 3 story townhouse. My big TV is on another floor from my PC. So while I think it's a cool idea, it doesn't help me at all.

I have a WoW problem anyways. I have a backlog of games I never play, because I spend all of my gaming time on WoW.

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

I can see that being a problem, we picked up a dual core little media pc for dirt cheap in a sale so that helped.
Im glad I got over my WoW addiction, although im hearing good things about Mists, there were a lot of games I was missing out on, I now have a indie platformer addiction and a Steam sale addiction.

Yeah. The bigger problem is I keep buying games and never playing/finishing them.

And I just maxxed my pvp toon on Sunday so now I have a whole new gear grind.

And I am enjoying Panda a lot more than Cats.

That's why I stopped couldn't stand the gear grind and I haven't raided before so I would pvp for the gear, endless sessions of Alterac Valley, as horde we usually lost that battleground as well, just burnt me out. I got super good at pvp though.
Even though I am curious about Mists I just cant do it.

I pve as an alliance rogue, but hated pvping with him. Way back in Vanilla before battlegroups, the queues on my server was 1-2 hours for Alliance and instant queues for horde.

So a bunch of us rolled horde alts, and I ended up playing as a mage and loving it.

By Cataclysm however my horde friends all seemed to quit so I transferred my horde characters to my alliance guild.

I LOVE rated BGs. I wish they had added them much sooner. As I get older I find I'm not as competitive as I was in my early 20s. I'm still hoping to organize some guild PVP once I get some gear though.

Oh and find it funny you say horde sucks. It's the complete opposite in my battlegroup. I miss pvping as horde, but I'd rather lose more often pvping with friends than win playing with complete strangers I guess.

The grind never bothers me anymore. Once I realized it didn't matter if I didn't have the best gear, so long as I could do the content I wanted, it took most of the stress away.

Back in Vanilla I was putting in over 40 hours a week playing, and running a 3 guild alliance with something like 200 people in it.

I got burned out. I kept hiding on my horde toon to avoid people pestering me when we weren't raiding.

Now I play more like 10-20 hours on a given week, though that has creeped up a bit the last few months with the initial expansion leveling/gearing.

I still have 1-2 more toons to level up if I get bored too. There is just too much to do for that right now though. lol.

Sounds like it was hectic lol.

Yeah I used to love pvp too, it wasn't that Horde sucked we won all the other battlegrounds just Alterac, I thought it was because of the layout making it easier for Alliance to win maybe im wrong.

terpkristin | 4407 comments I love how this has devolved into a PVP discussion. :)

The THQ Bundle is uninspiring to me, Windoze only and DRM. I'll stick with Steam if I were to do it, as others have said. Plus I already donate regularly to Child's Play, my charity of choice, so I'm happy to chip in what I might have spent on the THQ thing as an additional donation to CP.

FWIW, I spend more hours than I should confess playing Pokemon.

I have never played Pokemon and dont know anything about it, whats good about about it? I'v heard people say there addicted to it, always wondered what it was about, I kinda missed it.

Oh. Oh yes. As someone whose pvped both sides, that map is horribly biased towards alliance. The Alliance choke point on the bridge is far more defensible than the stupid tower/ramp that horde gets.

Not to mention Alliance can ignore all the NPCs, while Horde have to contend with them. Of course they've changed AV so much that it's basically just a race with no defense anymore.

Any conversation can devolve into a pvp discussion when I'm involved. :P

Awesome! It's mine as well. I donate to 2 hospitals every year (Johns Hopkins and the one in my hometown).

Actual Pokemon, or WoW Pokemon? :P

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

I was right then, wasn't sure haven't played alliance that much, man I spent hours in there, losing lol, so unfair.

You know, at the surface, it's a really basic turn-based JRPG, along the lines of the original Final Fantasy games but with kiddy-type "monsters." The "battles" are based on attack and defense types (fire beats grass but is weak to water, fighting beats normal but is weak to psychic, that kind of thing) and can be played by kids at the simplest level where they can have fun.

But then there are deeper things, like breeding optimized Pokemon and (pardon how cliche it sounds), trying to "catch them all." There's an entire subculture (that I'm not all that good at) about E-V training, trying to breed and train Pokemon for max stats in all levels. These are the people who kick butt at tournaments. I admit, that is more than I do. These people literally spend their entire time breeding Pokemon over and over until they get the "perfect" one, then they take it to certain areas to train to ensure max leveling in each stat section.

There's another sub-culture I didn't learn about until recently, basically on the philosophy of perma-deathing (as in most games, if your Pokemon dies, it can be revived); these people think that after a Pokemon dies, it's dead for good, unusable ever again. I kinda like this group and have contemplated re-starting one of the old games, but doing that.

For me, I really do like trying to catch them all. It's relaxing and still fulfilling, trying to find them. Since I didn't get into it until the FireRed/LeafGreen stage, there are some special event Pokemon I have yet to ever find...and now with the newest versions of the game, they've added more Pokemon to the "all" list. But I have a friend who's been playing longer who can help with some of the version exclusives. He and I trade a lot, we always buy opposite versions (e.g. he got Black and I got White).

I admit, I get annoyed by the random battles but those can be mitigated by buying enough "repel" potions...really, each game is an 8-dungeon ("dungeon") JRPG with an after-game that gives you harder boss battles and unlocks some unique items. Sometimes I get sick of grinding but enjoy the hunting.

ETA: Also, I feel weird going to the Pokemon events. Nothing like being a 33 year old woman and seeing all the parents there with their kids. Parents will ask who I'm there with, meanwhile I get down to the kids' level and ask if they want to trade...at least I'm not a guy. That is probably more creepy for them. :D

Lol it does sound pretty cool and highly addictive, I could see myself giving it A go, does sound like it could get expensive also though. I have started playing Indie games to cut the costs and wait for steam sales, I'm actually enjoying these games more than the bigger more main stream games, very fun and creative.

Sky Corbelli | 352 comments WoW Pokemon almost made me want to come back to WoW... I've been wanting a Pokemon MMO for so long, but I find myself wanting a more active combat system, like Super Smash Brothers or something (I miss you Tera... just not enough to pay for the subscription).

As far as the Humble Bundle goes, I already donate to Child's Play, and Firefall/GW2 have been keeping my attention well enough. Maybe I'll give Planetside 2 a try... I have fond memories of the original from my youth...

Owen | 12 comments I used to play WoW, I played it again when Cata came out and I've got an 85 Shammy, but stopped playing it again as I didn't feel the same as when I orignally played Vanilla back at launch. How has the new content been? I started playing The Old Republic again since it become F2P and actually subbed again, really enjoying it and I much prefer it to WoW at the moment..

I might get this humble bundle, some good games on there! Although I too have a list of games that seems to not want to stop growing :)
