Darren (dazburns) | 2148 comments so 3 more added to shelf for May
and 3 ticked off:
1 read with group (Gawain & Green Knight)
plus 2 catch-ups (Lord of the Rings and Adv's of Huck Finn)

so my percentage continues to e-e-e-edge up

131/256 = 51.2%

Terry | 2376 comments I understand that I am supposed to be able to see the group’s shelf from the desktop version of Goodreads. However, I access GR from my iPad, and when I try to get to the website, it automatically switches me over to the mobile app — very frustrating when trying to find the shelf!

I was wondering if one of the admins could start a thread that is the group’s shelf list of books read, and update it month by month as new books are added?

I know the admins work very hard already, but this would be a help to those of us who use the mobile app.

Would you want links or just titles and authors? Also have you tried looking at our list on Listopia? We try to keep it complete. Plus you can vote for your favorite books. Here is a link to the Listopia

https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/9...

If that does not work for you, let me know if you still want a list.

Great. We are always trying to encourage people to vote there. Each individual can only vote for 100 books. As our library of read books grows it takes multiple people voting to keep all the books on the shelf.

That is a solid starting point! There are two easy ways to count. Either vote on the Listopia, or I check a shelf titled Catching Up With Classics. I only put a book on that shelf once I have read it and it's super easy to keep up with that way.

message 1031: by Terry (new)

Terry | 2376 comments Lynn, From my iPad, I see the group list on the Listopia link, but I don’t see anything about voting. The list just looks like what you might see in your individual TBR list, but it categorizes which ones I have read or want to read and shows their star ratings. What is the voting about?

Same, but I chose to only count the ones I've read since joining Goodreads six years ago. I'll reread the others eventually.

If you're having problems with your iPad switching to the app version, you can switch to desktop. Just scroll to the bottom of the Goodreads page and there should be a button for the Desktop version. My phone kept trying to use the mobile version a couple of weeks back, which I hate, so I had to do this myself.

Oh sorry I missed this. I always log onto Goodreads from my laptop and go to the Desktop version Pink just mentioned. On the Listopia list when you see a book just under the stars there is a grey button that says "vote for this book". You can vote for up to 100 books.

Luke (korrick) Certain pages, such as the ones for book series, are simply permanently mobile, and with the Goodreads Feedback group destroyed, I fear that this perversion of the site's usability will only continue spread.

I guess we each just need to find the way that works best. Being older with glasses, the teeny tiny phone screens just do not work for me. I do have a Samsung tablet to use as a Kindle, but I prefer my hp laptop for Goodreads.

Sue K H (sky_bluez) | 3694 comments I'm doing my quarterly update now because I'm pretty sure I won't be finishing any group reads in this last week.

I only include books I read in college or later.

June 2016 14/148 - 9% (when I started the group)
Dec 2016 44/168 - 26%

June 2017 64/183 - 35%
Dec 2017 85/201 - 42%

Jun 2018 105/224 - 47%
Dec 2018 137/244 - 56%

March 2019 149/250 - 60%
June 2019 158/259 - 61% (I don't include the July books)

It's harder to move the needle but I'm still inching up.

I just noticed this is my 3 year anniversary in the group! In these 3 years, I've read 158 books from the shelf and many other classics from buddy reads and challenges.

Thank you to all the moderators and contributors who make this group so great. You have all changed my life.

July update. I joined this group one year ago. I calculate that the Group adds 40 books to the bookshelf each year. ( 3 x 12 = 36 That's OId School, New School, and Short Read. Then 4 Quarterly Long reads added to 36 = 40 books in all each year, roughly.) So to keep up with the pace of the group I want to read about 40 classics per year.

July 2018 67/227 = 29.5%
July 1, 2019 114 /266 = 42.9%

That was 47 books from the shelf in 12 months, with a few assists when books I had already read won. I feel like I accomplished a goal. : )

Wow, Lynn! You're doing great!
I read quite a few classics each year also, but I'm finding that I'm to the point that a lot of the ones I need to read are SO long! I guess I've cherry-picked the shorter ones over the years and this is what I have left: books that are 600-1000 pages long!!! So I'll try to get through them a little at a time -- but the Bingo and Old/New challenges really help to motivate me! ;)

Yes! It is tempting to go for the short ones. I am totally guilty of that!! LOL I tried to put a variety on my Old and New Challenge list to keep me from neglecting the long ones. Also, I am rereading three books this year, like Jane Eyre.
