Jace was sent there after his 'father', Michael Wayland was dead.
I have no idea why the Clave decided America. Maybe because Cassie is living in America so it is much practical to write something she is so familiar with.
I think it has to start in England, as many myths and fantasy are from England.... :)

Errr.... the Lightwoods were sent to America to head the institute there, as part of their punishment. Jace was sent to them to take care. Maybe because the clave wanted to gather the Circle in one place, along with their offspring. Being sent is different with went.

and I'm guessing all this is revealed in the TMI series, sorry for asking a stupid question guys :)

It's not a stupid question. The answer is a bit complicated though. I would recommend reading the books and finding out the answer. I believe you get the answer in the first book so you don't have to wait long. But if you really want to know you can PM me and I will explain it to you in detail.

Go Sumaya!! You really need to read TMI... ;)

Sumaya indeed needs to read TMI, before Emma from The Dark Artifices arrives.

I have been following her books for so long, I practically read the series based on when the book was released. It was more than a year after City of Glass that Clockwork Angel was released. I remember I read it for a whole day, dropping other things until I finished... hahahaha
After Clockwork Angel, City of Fallen Angels, Clockwork Prince & City of Lost Souls were released respectively... ;)

I can into this series pretty much right before City of Lost Souls came out. Then I found out that CC wrote another series and read TID and now I'm hooked.
