From the reviews and shelves, this book is Welcome to the Monkey House by Kurt Vonnegut. But according to Worldcat (and currently Goodreads) it's Eltern by Patricia Graef. I'm not sure what to do. Thanks for your help.

But there are two books with the ISBN, right? Also, it's definitely not by Steinbeck.
