SOLVED. Cemetary caretaker with a physical disfigurement who could commune with the dead. [s]

Hi, I read a book around 2005/2006 about a woman who was a cemetary caretaker with some sort of physical disfigurement (possibly on her face). She was a loner and very isolated from the rest of the community. She had a lot of cats and I think she could talk to the dead. There was some sort of murder or crime she helped solve and as a result of the interaction with the sheriff, he began to fall in love with her.

The cover of the book was gray and it was in either the fiction or mystery section of the library. I would like re-read it if I could only remember the name or author.
