I am only on chapter 3 and Mrs John Dashwood is conniving and self centered. She also knows how to get around John to the point he doesn't even know what she is doing.

Yes, Mrs. John Dashwood is most intolerable. When I hate a character, I always commend the author for creating a character so well, because when you can dislike them so much, it's usually a result of good writing.

Hi Verity, she is one of those characters you just love to hate. I love the book so far and you are right it is very well written. It isn't just the character the whole story has to be well written to have any depth to it.

Indeed, she is mean, self centred and slap worthy. I also think John is weak for allowing his wife to manipulate him that way.
