Trilogy, again?

seriously, why do every ya dystopian books i read always trilogy? or has #1,5 or #2,5 or even #0.5. and worse, its all havent published until next year! do you guys know any dystopian stand alone book?

There's a few. The first one is really good. I don't know if you've read any Jane Austen, but it's a dystopian style re-telling of the book Persuasion. The scourge is a very cheap e-book that could be retailed at a lot more because it's awesome, I highly recommend it. The eleventh plague was pretty good, but for me, not amazing. And I didn't read Ready Player One, but a lot of people really like it so you might give it a try :)

I had the same little pet peeve!! But ashes, ashes by Jo treggiari, and the eleventh plague by Jeff Hirsch are standalone books and they are both AMAZING! Also, starters by lissa price is a duology (two book series) and it's pretty good, the next book gets released soon :)

I liked Ashes, Ashes a lot, also Eden by Keary Taylor is pretty good. Its definitely hard finding a dystopian book thats stand alone, but if you are looking for dystopian books where the trilogy is complete there are a few of those out there, or ones where the third book is about to be released. ( A Million Suns, Eve, Delirium, Matched, Moon Dwellers, just to name a few...) But I completely understand, theres nothing worse than starting a book, and loving it only to find out its a trilogy with no date in sight for the next book...(Exceptionals, Outside, Conscious, Fast Tracked...)Hope this helps!

I, too, feel I had enough of trilogies and series, that's why I just wasn't willing to start the Black Prism, although I'm curious, and stopped reading the Cassie Palmer series, although folks swear it's getting better with every volume.
Seriously, I can't recommend a single YA dystopia that is a stand-alone book, but if you don't stick to YA, there are some good dystopias with young characters.

Battle Royale and Moxyland, or even less YA-ish but really good The Windup Girl.

This Is Not A Test not only fits the bill of being a standalone YA post apocalyptic book, but the premise is very unique and it's well written.

I personally like a trilogy, but I despise the "point fives." I feel like it's just a ploy to make more money and they are never worth the money. I like it when books can stand alone in a series or when two series come together, but that's just me. A good book leaves the reader panting for more...as long as there is more, I wanna read it.
