J.C. Hendee (jchendee) | 17 comments While logged through my spouse's (Barb Hendeed's) account to update info/editions, I finally notice the book URL field and put it to got use, pointing readers to the general page at NobleDead.org for all of our "Tales from the world of the Noble Dead Saga." However...

When I logged out and then in on my own account, and went to check for the same on my own "Tales"... no book URL field was available (to me) for Karras the Cat and Karras the Kitten.

If there's a status issue for me to have this field available, then I'd like to begin processing the necessities. If not, then something is amiss otherwise.

Any thoughts... anyone?

Banjomike | 5166 comments I've added http://www.nobledead.org/ to the three Karras the Kitten editions. Can you see the field on the edit page now?

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 6325 comments Not available when you go to edit a book you are primary (first listed) author should not be happening; a bug needing to contact gr support about (directly and/or a post in feedback group bugs section).

Not seeing URLs when viewing vs. editing book pages—there's a green "more detail" or "less detail" text right above green vendor buttons and review/shelf information that makes URL, isbn and edition language also visible. Goodreads readers/members set to their own preference.

Michelle (fairytalestheworldover) Hello, I am having this same problem. I am adding books that I have written - they are Kindle only editions. And there is no field for adding a URL.

What URLs are you trying to add? Links to Amazon would not be ok.

message 6: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (fairytalestheworldover) Oh, ok. I didn't realize that. That was what I was going to put, but I won't now.

Someone else had added one of my books, before I started adding them tonight, and they had put a link to Amazon on it.

I should go and remove that then.
Thank you!

message 7: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (fairytalestheworldover) Darnit, you know what - I can't see the URL field for that book either. So I can't remove it.

Could someone else kindly remove the Amazon URL for this book?
Please don't make any other edits, that is the only thing that needs to be updated. Thanks!

Please note the yellow tooltip that corresponds to that field.

message 9: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (fairytalestheworldover) Thanks - I would if I could see it! :)

You do need to click in the field before it shows. It isn't a traditional hover-type popup.

message 11: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (fairytalestheworldover) I know that, what I am saying is this: the field itself does not exist for me. It's the same problem the original poster had.

That is why I asked if someone else could edit the URL out of the above book for me. The entire field is not visible to me.

message 12: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (fairytalestheworldover) Just FYI - I searched high and low for it. I even used F3 to search for the word URL anywhere on the book edit page, and it does not exist for me.

Very odd. We definitely have plenty of GR Authors who edit it on their books!

message 14: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (fairytalestheworldover) Yes, that is what I thought. It is strange. I just double-checked it now to see if it might appear for me, and still no luck. :(
Oh well. Hopefully someone will be kind enough to edit out the link for me.
I certainly don't want to get in trouble for the book that was added by someone else who put the Amazon url in it.

Sure. I just saw one, and deleted it. If there are others, please link to the book(s) in question.

message 16: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (fairytalestheworldover) Thank you so much! That was the only one. If it happens again, and I still can't see the URL field, I will link to the book.

Thanks again!! :)

Sorry, but no go. No "book url" field for any self-pub ebook with my name only when using my own login. However, I can still access book URLs for Barb's self-pub ebooks when using her login.

the actual book URL for all "Tales from..." is:

www.nobledead.org/p/tales-from-world-...

In addition, possibly because I am listed as a "co-author", none of the Noble Dead Saga's series show up as a "series" under my name / profile. A separate issue, but still, not good professionally.

Best, J.C.

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 6325 comments I suspect the url field not showing might be a bug, maybe needs a thread started over in feedback group bug folder.

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 6325 comments @J.C. The karras books, all editions, should now have the more specific url link.

J.C. Hendee (jchendee) | 17 comments Thank you for the fix, Debbie. That will do for now. I have sometime in the past posted a couple of things in the feedback group (may have missed the bug thread) but nothing came of it. Had to run to you librarians to find me a workaround ... and thank you again. Not sure I've had any direct contact with actual GR employees or not.

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 6325 comments I know not being primary author (first listed on goodreads entry) is what's preventing series credit under your name as well. Books usually get set up with titles and authors matching bookcovers; in Noble Dead series author on cover shows "Barb & J.C. Hendee" so Barb got put first.

I'm not sure (here on goodreads less than a year) how that gets handled.

Anyone?

I don't want to get J.C. or myself yelled at for asking; but, if both authors send a request to goodreads to change who is primary author-would that be okay or against policy? I realize the first Noble Dead series would then not show on Barb's author page.

Primary author is by book covers, not author request.

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 6325 comments @J.C. - speaking of URLs, I think your author page has a wrong one for author website, it's saying nobledead.com instead of nobledead.org .

The really official posts show a shaded title like "Volunteer Mod" next to Rivka's post above. In Feedback group I think Patrick, Emily and Kara with titles by their name have posted — they are definitely staff. Click "Group Home" over at top right of this and feedback group and you'll see some n the moderators.

The moderators for a group are not always staff but have a lot of control over groups.

J.C. Hendee (jchendee) | 17 comments @Debbie - thanks for noticing URL problem on my profile. I missed that all along. And for tip about staff

As to the author situation... I can only sigh. It takes little in the way of scripting to associate books to authors, which is already a part of the system's scripting. That association in the data structure already exists, or I wouldn't be able to claim "my books." Imagine how little it would take to associate a series to a second author... or co-author.

Not to mention that because Barb has her own private work, and her site that does not feature the Noble Dead Saga directly, the association of the series of the saga thereby doesn't lead to the correct site.

But this is of course a topic for another thread... or discussion.

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 6325 comments I confess I glanced at all your foreign covers in case one slipped and listed names in a different order...nope. Consistent, consistent, consistent.

Are you sure The Tales from Noble Dead Sage books are not supposed to be a part of the Noble Dead Saga itself? I'm not sure of the chronology myself because I tend to stay away from short stories ( well until no other full lengths are coming out for same world any time soon...I'm counting down to December's The Dog in the Dark.)
