Agreed.

Ryan | 5334 comments Hi Pirates! I'm just wondering where the whole vanishing problem currently sits over the other side of the world?
I still have full access to everything, as far as I can tell. I can open and read every thread with no bad links so far. I've been removed as a moderator though...oh, that's right, I never was one :D

Any progress?

message 103: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments At your prompt, I just tested a couple of the links fromt the group home: most seem to be working, but popcorn still isn't for me.

So, it looks like some progress is being made. But now I'm going to bed - its 1:30 in the morning here.

Night.

message 104: by Ryan (new)

Ryan | 5334 comments Goodnight Guy. Haiku you tomorrow :)

Yeah, it has everything to do with the issues. M had to add me again. I'll go quickly restore your privileges.

message 106: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Today must not be your birthday, Stephanie, because it hasn’t turned out to be the end of the world. Goodreads came up and the W.S.S. is still afloat.

message 107: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (chasmofbooks) | 2875 comments Haha. Nope. Definitely not my birthday. Give it about 20 more days.

message 108: by Christa VG (new)

Christa VG (christa-ronpaul2012) Oh no! It's starting to happen in my group. M did you get an answer back from goodreads yet?

message 109: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (chasmofbooks) | 2875 comments Uh, oh.

message 110: by Christa VG (new)

Christa VG (christa-ronpaul2012) How did you save the threads before they disappeared?

message 111: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (chasmofbooks) | 2875 comments I didn't save any threads so I don't know. You'd have to ask Kat.

message 112: by Christa VG (new)

Christa VG (christa-ronpaul2012) Any chance Al that you could re-put up the "Get your story/poem reviewed" thread?

message 113: by Stephanie (last edited Dec 01, 2012 03:55PM) (new)

Stephanie (chasmofbooks) | 2875 comments I'd be willing to do that again for you, Al, if you'd like me too of course.

message 114: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Christa, I haven’t heard anything back from Goodreads. The link to the “Get your story/poem reviewed” thread isn’t working. I typed it into the group’s search engine, and a link to it came up, so I think the thread may still be there, but I couldn’t get to it.

message 115: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (chasmofbooks) | 2875 comments It probably is. The first page might be unavailable though so that's probably why we can't access it from the homepage. Like the popcorn thread.

message 116: by Ryan (new)

Ryan | 5334 comments Try this link:

http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/2...

I don't think it worked for anyone yesterday, but give it a shot.
You can rest easy though-the entire thread still exists. I just opened it then and can see it all. The more I look into this, the more I agree with M - I don't think the goodreads servers are handling the amount of traffic...

Hopefully the link works. I might try sending it in a message, M, and see if that works for you...

message 117: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (chasmofbooks) | 2875 comments Tried it from my Nook. Can't see it roght now. I thinkI can from the goodreads app if I remember correctly.

message 118: by Ryan (new)

Ryan | 5334 comments Yeah, mine is only working from within the goodreads iPad app too now.

message 119: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Thanks, Ryan! I clicked the link and got the “Page not found” message. I wonder if GR is being slow to reply because this is happening all over the place and they have their hands full? That link will come in handy.

message 120: by Ryan (new)

Ryan | 5334 comments No worries, M. Let me know if you want any more sent. I have access to all of them still.

message 121: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments I also got the page not found message.

message 122: by Ryan (new)

Ryan | 5334 comments Mine is a bit hit and miss if I use the goodreads website at present too. Try using the iPad app, Guy. I haven't had a single problem via that...

message 123: by Caitlan (new)

Caitlan (lionesserampant) | 2869 comments Ryan, I got the same message as M when I clicked your link.

message 124: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments The 55th Page thread is back up! I wonder if the problem has been, at least temporarily, fixed?

message 125: by Caitlan (new)

Caitlan (lionesserampant) | 2869 comments I hope so! I haven't had any problems yet, so I'm keeping my fingers, toes, legs, arms, and eyes crossed.

message 126: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (chasmofbooks) | 2875 comments Have any of the other threads come back yet?

message 127: by Edward (new)

Edward (edwardtheresejr) | 2434 comments The humor thread has.

message 128: by Christa VG (new)

message 129: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (chasmofbooks) | 2875 comments Nice.

message 130: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments I can’t tell whether Edward, in #144, is referring the the actual thread or to this one. When I read Kat’s comment about keeping her eyes crossed, I started laughing.

message 131: by Caitlan (new)

Caitlan (lionesserampant) | 2869 comments Ehehe, I actually do that sometimes, if I really want something to happen. I'm sure I look like a pretzel XD

message 132: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (chasmofbooks) | 2875 comments Hahahaha

I was referring to the actual thread, but I wish I had thought of that.

Hi Guy,

I’m so sorry to hear that some of your threads were inaccessible. We fixed a bug this morning that affected some group threads. All of your information should be safe, and you will no longer see any “page not found” errors when you try to open group threads. Please let us know if you are still experiencing issues, and I will look into your group specifically.

Unfortunately, there is currently no way for moderators to download the contents of threads. I can suggest this as a new feature, but it’s unlikely that we will get to this soon – I’m really sorry about that. There also is not a backup or a change log available to view for group threads. Once something has been deleted, it is permanently removed from our system.

Please let me know if you have any further questions about this.

Best,
Emily

So, GR had a known bug, as opposed to a virus. So far, I've not experienced any other thread failures, and with the other comments here, it looks like that that bug fix may have fixed our group.

message 135: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments YW! But it would be nice to have some way of backing up threads like Haiku and Popcorn. Ah well.

Yay! Really glad to hear that!

message 137: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments My air card signal flatlined yesterday evening, and I couldn’t log on. I had gotten a similar message from Goodreads, but it came to my e-mail, which I hardly ever check anymore, so my wife discovered it:

Hi M,
Thanks for your message. We just fixed a bug this morning that affected group threads. If you were receiving a “page not found” error when you clicked on specific group threads, this should no longer be happening!
Please let me know if it looks like there is something else wrong with your group discussions, and I’ll look into it further.
Best,
Emily

Stephanie (chasmofbooks) | 2875 comments Well at least it's fixed.

message 139: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Thank heavens! I thought somebody had pulled the plug on the pirate ship. Phil and Narvis expected rising water. It took thirty mice and Ralph the cat to move Ray’s typewriter from the hold to an unused cabin on an upper deck.

message 140: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Trust the mice to rescue the typewriter and not the captain! LoL. The word is, after all, mightier than hook.

message 141: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (chasmofbooks) | 2875 comments I didn't know we still had empty cabins.

message 142: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Oops. I wasn’t supposed to say anything about that.

message 143: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (chasmofbooks) | 2875 comments Hmmm

message 144: by M (last edited Dec 04, 2012 08:16AM) (new)

M | 11617 comments Mouse #3: Why is it that every time M opens his mouth, he gets in trouble about something?
Mouse #1: He’s got Irish blood in him, Earl.
Mouse #8: (Nibbling a chocolate-covered espresso bean.) Ah, yes. My great-grandmother was from the old sod. (Looks at Phil and Earl.) Somebody’s been using this cabin to stash some great snacks!
Mouse #1: (Contentedly dragging out a honeycomb.) I see that.

message 147: by Caitlan (new)

Caitlan (lionesserampant) | 2869 comments Seriously. She deserved it.

message 148: by Caitlan (new)

Caitlan (lionesserampant) | 2869 comments So they literally would go through him XD

I just realized. Our mod order is all messed up now.

message 149: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (chasmofbooks) | 2875 comments ?

message 150: by Caitlan (new)

Caitlan (lionesserampant) | 2869 comments Al used to be first, but since the only people who didn't get kicked off were M and I, she's not first anymore.
