Vanishing Threads
Some of the ones that aren't accessible are ones that were posted in recently, as soon as 18 hours ago.
Okay. Well, we could try random pages. That way we still have access to the threads. I don't know how much good it would do. But it might be worth a try.So you can still access the Haiku thread just not page 17?
Are any of these links in posting working for anyone else? It seems like I still have access to everything... I might be on a different server or something...
No, they're not, Ryan. And now, the same thing is happening in some of my other groups. Maybe it's a goodreads breakdown?
I've checked one of my groups and it seems to fine. And I haven't heard of any complaints from anybody.
M wrote: "It was nice knowing everybody."Lol. You have no idea. My birthday's on doomsday this year.
Yeah, Al. I can open and read the first page of popcorn, 17 of haiku and every other page I look at...
Not sure, Kat. Maybe Australia is on a different server. I don't think I've lost anything...yet! Unfortunately I'm just heading out to a family birthday so I'll be gone for a few hours. Hopefully it fixes up in the meantime. If not, I'll try and save all the links.
Oh dang. Ryan, you're on an ipad right? Does anyone else have an Eread, ipad, etc.? Because it looks like I can access all of the threads from my NOOK.
Yep, iPad. But I can access everything by the iPad app or by using the safari browser to the goodreads page...
I'm using safari on my pc and can't access all of the pages/threads so I don't think it's the browser. I'll have to try goodreads on my Nook's browser but it's working in the app for me too.
Oh, can't access page 17 of the Haiku thread from whatever browser my Nook uses. Or any of the other "missing" threads/pages.
I can't access it from firefox or internet explorer, but the app works just fine. Does anyone have safari and can try that?
I don't have it here, but it is on my Mom's PC. I might be able to check it later but not right now.
Yup. Same here. Not working in Mozilla Firefox too. I think the problem is with GR itself. Some threads in the Poetry group are also missing. I did some random checks.
This is bizarre.I didn't read all hundred comments, but I got the gist. This is a very peculiar problem.
Yup. It's bizarre and very annoying. It's as if a huge trojan has crawled up into the GR mainframe and is causing havoc. And of all, the fact that it had to happen to the W.S.S bothers me more.
Curious, I can access all the threads I've tried from the notification links on Chrome sent to my e.mail address. But I can't access them from the WSS home page.I've sent an e.mail to the administrators as well.
... Am I supposed to have been removed as moderator. I wouldn't complain, since I haven't really acted like a moderator for a few months. I just want to know if this has any thing to do with our issues.
I haven't removed you as mod, Edward. I believe it is related to the failures. Here's the note I sent to the Goodreads' administrators:
The group Weekly Short Stories Contest and Company! @
http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/1...
has been experiencing near catastrophic failures: links are broken, threads have disappeared, moderators expunged. The failures have been erratic and inconsistent. For example, at this time I cannot access the threads from the group's home page - GR says that the URL doesn't exist. However, I am able to access that thread from the Goodreads' notification sent to my e.mail. Also, a member from Australia had full access from his iPad at the same time that the members from North America and India were experiencing the failures.
For a short list of failures being experienced, as well as work arounds and anomalies and testing done by our member, see our thread "Vanishing Threads" @
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...
Secondly, this failure has prompted me to ask: is it possible for moderators in a group to download in CSV format (or other), the contents of threads as a form of back-up? Furthermore, is there a method by which the Administrators of Goodreads can supply moderators with back-up information? Frequency, last back-up, changes, etc.?

Maybe they aren't whole threads. Maybe it's just the first page(s) but we can't access the other page(s) because it's been so long since someone's posted in them.
Ryan, if you can access the review threads, go to the last page in them and post.
