Maybe they aren't whole threads. Maybe it's just the first page(s) but we can't access the other page(s) because it's been so long since someone's posted in them.

Ryan, if you can access the review threads, go to the last page in them and post.

Caitlan (lionesserampant) | 2869 comments Some of the ones that aren't accessible are ones that were posted in recently, as soon as 18 hours ago.

message 54: by Stephanie (last edited Nov 30, 2012 02:06PM) (new)

Stephanie (chasmofbooks) | 2875 comments Okay. Well, we could try random pages. That way we still have access to the threads. I don't know how much good it would do. But it might be worth a try.

So you can still access the Haiku thread just not page 17?

message 55: by Caitlan (new)

Caitlan (lionesserampant) | 2869 comments Nope.

message 56: by Stephanie (last edited Nov 30, 2012 02:12PM) (new)

Stephanie (chasmofbooks) | 2875 comments Am I correct in guessing that you guys probably can't access the intro thread too, Kat?

message 57: by Ryan (new)

Ryan | 5334 comments Are any of these links in posting working for anyone else? It seems like I still have access to everything... I might be on a different server or something...

message 58: by Christa VG (new)

Christa VG (christa-ronpaul2012) I can open the threads, but the page says there is nothing there.

message 59: by Stephanie (last edited Nov 30, 2012 02:10PM) (new)

Stephanie (chasmofbooks) | 2875 comments I haven't been able too. Try commenting in those threads, Ryan.

message 60: by Caitlan (new)

Caitlan (lionesserampant) | 2869 comments No, they're not, Ryan. And now, the same thing is happening in some of my other groups. Maybe it's a goodreads breakdown?

message 61: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (chasmofbooks) | 2875 comments I've checked one of my groups and it seems to fine. And I haven't heard of any complaints from anybody.

message 62: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments It was nice knowing everybody.

message 63: by Caitlan (new)

Caitlan (lionesserampant) | 2869 comments M, stop with the doom threats. XP You're not helping the situation, lol.

message 65: by Christa VG (new)

Christa VG (christa-ronpaul2012) M.......BWHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Always so encouraging.

Stephanie (chasmofbooks) | 2875 comments M wrote: "It was nice knowing everybody."

Lol. You have no idea. My birthday's on doomsday this year.

message 67: by Ryan (new)

Ryan | 5334 comments Yeah, Al. I can open and read the first page of popcorn, 17 of haiku and every other page I look at...

message 68: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (chasmofbooks) | 2875 comments Can you guys see the Greetings/Introduction, Tell us Two Things, and the Which One?! threads, guys?

message 69: by Caitlan (new)

Caitlan (lionesserampant) | 2869 comments Ryann. How?

message 70: by Ryan (new)

Ryan | 5334 comments Not sure, Kat. Maybe Australia is on a different server. I don't think I've lost anything...yet! Unfortunately I'm just heading out to a family birthday so I'll be gone for a few hours. Hopefully it fixes up in the meantime. If not, I'll try and save all the links.

message 71: by Stephanie (last edited Nov 30, 2012 02:23PM) (new)

Stephanie (chasmofbooks) | 2875 comments Oh dang. Ryan, you're on an ipad right? Does anyone else have an Eread, ipad, etc.? Because it looks like I can access all of the threads from my NOOK.

message 72: by Ryan (new)

Ryan | 5334 comments Yep, iPad. But I can access everything by the iPad app or by using the safari browser to the goodreads page...

message 73: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (chasmofbooks) | 2875 comments I'm using safari on my pc and can't access all of the pages/threads so I don't think it's the browser. I'll have to try goodreads on my Nook's browser but it's working in the app for me too.

message 74: by Caitlan (new)

Caitlan (lionesserampant) | 2869 comments I can access everything by the app on my iPod as well.

message 75: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Aha! It’s a browser problem.

message 76: by Christa VG (new)

Christa VG (christa-ronpaul2012) I'm using firefox and I cannot access all the topics

message 77: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (chasmofbooks) | 2875 comments Just for real PCs apparently.

message 78: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments I have a CC (crappy computer).

message 79: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (chasmofbooks) | 2875 comments Well, same difference right now.

message 80: by Stephanie (last edited Nov 30, 2012 02:34PM) (new)

Stephanie (chasmofbooks) | 2875 comments Oh, can't access page 17 of the Haiku thread from whatever browser my Nook uses. Or any of the other "missing" threads/pages.

message 81: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (chasmofbooks) | 2875 comments Are you using the Goodreads app at all?

message 82: by Caitlan (new)

Caitlan (lionesserampant) | 2869 comments I can't access it from firefox or internet explorer, but the app works just fine. Does anyone have safari and can try that?

message 83: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (chasmofbooks) | 2875 comments I'm using safari right now.

message 84: by Caitlan (new)

Caitlan (lionesserampant) | 2869 comments google chrome?

message 85: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (chasmofbooks) | 2875 comments I don't have it here, but it is on my Mom's PC. I might be able to check it later but not right now.

message 86: by Caitlan (new)

Caitlan (lionesserampant) | 2869 comments okay. Well, I'm going to get off. Goodreads seems to be slowing down everything about my computer.

message 87: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (chasmofbooks) | 2875 comments Okay. Talk to you later.

message 88: by Ajay (new)

Ajay (ajay_n) | 1138 comments Yup. Same here. Not working in Mozilla Firefox too. I think the problem is with GR itself. Some threads in the Poetry group are also missing. I did some random checks.

message 89: by Ajay (new)

Ajay (ajay_n) | 1138 comments Now I'm curious!

message 90: by Edward (new)

Edward (edwardtheresejr) | 2434 comments This is bizarre.

I didn't read all hundred comments, but I got the gist. This is a very peculiar problem.

message 91: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (chasmofbooks) | 2875 comments That's what I thought earlier.

message 92: by Edward (new)

Edward (edwardtheresejr) | 2434 comments Especially as the first page of the Humor thread is missing - but not the most recent page.

message 93: by Ajay (new)

Ajay (ajay_n) | 1138 comments Yup. It's bizarre and very annoying. It's as if a huge trojan has crawled up into the GR mainframe and is causing havoc. And of all, the fact that it had to happen to the W.S.S bothers me more.

message 94: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (chasmofbooks) | 2875 comments Yeah, Edward, it makes it especially hard to access those threads.

message 95: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Curious, I can access all the threads I've tried from the notification links on Chrome sent to my e.mail address. But I can't access them from the WSS home page.

I've sent an e.mail to the administrators as well.

message 96: by Edward (new)

Edward (edwardtheresejr) | 2434 comments ... Am I supposed to have been removed as moderator. I wouldn't complain, since I haven't really acted like a moderator for a few months. I just want to know if this has any thing to do with our issues.

message 97: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments I haven't removed you as mod, Edward. I believe it is related to the failures.

Here's the note I sent to the Goodreads' administrators:

The group Weekly Short Stories Contest and Company! @

http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/1...

has been experiencing near catastrophic failures: links are broken, threads have disappeared, moderators expunged. The failures have been erratic and inconsistent. For example, at this time I cannot access the threads from the group's home page - GR says that the URL doesn't exist. However, I am able to access that thread from the Goodreads' notification sent to my e.mail. Also, a member from Australia had full access from his iPad at the same time that the members from North America and India were experiencing the failures.

For a short list of failures being experienced, as well as work arounds and anomalies and testing done by our member, see our thread "Vanishing Threads" @
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...

Secondly, this failure has prompted me to ask: is it possible for moderators in a group to download in CSV format (or other), the contents of threads as a form of back-up? Furthermore, is there a method by which the Administrators of Goodreads can supply moderators with back-up information? Frequency, last back-up, changes, etc.?

message 98: by Edward (new)

Edward (edwardtheresejr) | 2434 comments Well, that's about a concise as you can get it.

message 99: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments When it comes to reporting troubles, concise is good. I think.
