Hello everyone! December is here and I hope you guys are up for a new monthly challenge! We've been doing a lot of reading and non-reading challenges lately that we rarely do buddy reads on our group. So, to rectify this, we decided to start a month-long challenge called the Buddy Read All You Can Challenge. As the title suggests, participants will start or join as many buddy reads as they can. Make sure that you follow the buddy reading guidelines.

Buddy Reading Guidelines:

1) Any member of this group can start a buddy read by posting the title/s of the book/s you want to read in the WANTED: Reading Buddies thread.

2) Once you found someone to read a book with, you can discuss yourselves how many pages per day you'll read, the starting date, etc.

3) Make sure to open a thread at least 2-3 days prior the start date to encourage others to join your buddy reading circle.

Note: The thread MUST contain the title of the book, author and the start date.

e.g. The Fault In Our Stars by John Green --> Start Date: November 30, 2012
Significance by Shelly Crane/Start Date: December, 9, 2012

4) Feel free to discuss what you've read on your own thread. Make sure that you respect each other's opinion about the book and avoid fighting.

5) Enjoy!

Point System:

Guided Buddy Read (GBR)+ book review = 5 points
Buddy Read with approved book review* = 2 points
Series Read Along (SRA) = 2 points per book read with approved review*

*Note: Book reviews will be read by the moderators and will be subjected for approval

Suggested Book Review Format:

Brief summary:
What I liked: specifics
What I didn't like: specifics
Recommendation: yes or no or for whom

At the end of the month, the top 3 participants with the highest number of points will win 2 eBooks each. Participants who didn't make it to the top three will still have a chance to win via raffle draw. Points will be given an equivalent raffle entry. 3 winners will be drawn and each will get a chance to choose ONE title from the Prize List.

Points to Raffle Entry conversion:
2 points = 1 raffle entry

******************************************************

Do you have questions about the challenge? don't hesitate to post your questions here. =)

Please leave a comment on this thread to confirm that you are participating on this challenge.

Thanks!

Sure :D I hope I can find some people to read books I already have. I can't spend any more money on books! My hubby's eyes just about popped out of his head when he looked at our bank statement and saw how many books I purchased last month. Oops! I had to distract him because he was going to add it all up. Darn Kindle! $.99 here and $2.99 there doesn't seem like all that much, but it adds up quick! Good thing I have three kids and have learned some mad distracting skills. Otherwise...I'd be toast! Lol XD

message 7: by Greta (new)

Greta (goodreadsgreta) | 4545 comments Jalyn, Lol! I can relate! I'm so blessed that my husband seems to accept that books count as essential items! I can ony get about 60% of what I want at the library.

I'm glad you two like this challenge! Props to Novel! She is so clever :)

message 8: by Jalyn (new)

Jalyn (jalynnie) | 3827 comments My hubby is pretty good about my book purchases usually, but I went a little crazy this month! I warned him this might happen at some point when he bought me my Kindle! Lol :)

My library is very small and they almost never have the books I want, but they just hired a new librarian and she's in charge of YA books now, which is good because they only have one shelf front and back with YA and it's not even full. They have more in their digital library, but not that much more. So hopefully I'll be able to buy less and order more soon :)

And yeah, Novel rocks! :D

message 9: by Greta (new)

Greta (goodreadsgreta) | 4545 comments Jalyn, If you request books, will your librarian bring them in from other libraries in the county? That's how my library works.

Novel (velsanchez1) | 2886 comments Thanks, Jalyn and Greta! I'm hoping to use this challenge so that I can read some of the books on my TBR list...I have more than a hundred unread books on my eBook library!

Alley Kat (alleykat666) | 743 comments I'm in on this one. It'll give me a chance to be more involved with the other people in the group.

Heather | 135 comments I'm unclear as to the difference between a Guided Buddy Read and just a Buddy Read. Also, is a review NOT required for the GBR? It's the only one that doesn't mention a review, but maybe that's because I don't know what a GBR is?

For more info about GBR, please follow this link: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...

if you are joining this challenge, a review is also required for the GBR (A Walk to Remember).

message 15: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2302 comments Novel, the guidelines state that we earn 5 points for a GBR. Does that mean for participation in the reading/discussion thread or is that 5 points for the one whose book was selected and is the guide for the book reading?

Jalyn (jalynnie) | 3827 comments Ok so I have a question...does a book count if we signed up to buddy read with someone before this challenge, but didn't start the book until December?

Yes.

message 20: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2302 comments Hey Novel, if I do a buddy read such as the Perfect Chemistry (Perfect Chemistry, #1) by Simone Elkeles series but I have already read book 1, can I reread and still get credit for book 1, or do I only get credit for books 2 and 3? Or will I get credit at all if I don't read the entire series during the month of December?

message 21: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2302 comments Sorry, one more question: I just posted a book that I read alone. Then as I was reading the above I now think that ALL reads for the challenge must be done as a buddy read of some type. Is that right? Gosh, duh, it's a buddy reads challenge. LOL Guess I will have to go remove my book that I just read. Whaaaaa (as Jona would say lol).

If you re-read it and write a review about it, it will be counted. =) and YES it must be done as a buddy read.

message 23: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2302 comments Okay, thank you so much! I don't know what happened to my brain. I call it a "brain malfunction." LOL

Okay, I probably need to re-read Perfect Chemistry anyway because I think it was a good year ago that I read it...before GR days!

I asked about this when I went to the library on Tuesday and they did it for me. I tried this a few years ago and they wouldn't do it, but luckily they do it now :) I have no idea how long it will take to come in though. The librarian didn't even know.

Greta (goodreadsgreta) | 4545 comments ^ I know I have done recent buddy reads with more of you than are on this list. We really are giving a lot of prizes for this challenge :)

To get credit please enter the challenge by creating a shelf, and write reviews for any reads you've already participated in this month :)
