I barely finished this climb last year. Thanks to kindle freebies (I'm looking at you, Misfit), I'll make it this time with less effort.

Damn goodreads ate my comment :/

I believe you can count those pre 2013 freebies on this year's challenge. I'm still concentrating on my dead tree books more than the ebooks.

I will be counting those freebies. I grabbed several of Susanna Kearsley's books for $0.99 last year.

Rio (Lynne) | 13 comments DNFs count. They were in the pile, got moved out, were read and took up time I can never get back. ;)

I had one on my list last year. I don't know if Bev made any "official" call on percentage read, but if you gave it a fair shot, and it actually moved off the shelf, I think it counts, too. :)

Rio (Lynne) | 13 comments The point is to move that pile down right? :)

I think there was a ruling on that last year. I wouldn't count a ten page DNF, but 200 pages, yes. For some people that's a whole book.

I think so. Nothing was making me read that book, otherwise.

Of course, at this rate, you may be able to climb higher.

Jemidar | 116 comments I think the ruling was that you had to read over 50% for a DNF to count. Reading them is the real aim, not just moving them off the pile. LOL.

Rio (Lynne) | 13 comments I think 1 hour of reading counts ;)

Jemidar | 116 comments Check with Bev just to be safe. Bev's Challenge = Bev's Rules.

Yes, teacher Jem. I didn't see anything when I looked :)

Rio (Lynne) | 13 comments I asked Bev. Awaiting the answer.

Jemidar | 116 comments Good girl! Gold star for you ;-D.

message 18: by Misfit (new)

Misfit | 45 comments How about shorter points for DNF? .25 for a 50 page bail-out, .50 100 pages, .75 for 150 pages and a full point for 200 or more :0

message 19: by Rio (Lynne) (new)

Rio (Lynne) | 13 comments Either way...I put a DNF next to the books I didn't, but they go on my list because they were removed from that dusty pile.

Yes...DNF may count--as long as they meet your personal DNF rules (I've loosened up a bit this year :-) --and you feel like you've given the book a fair shot. For me, I have to give a book 100 pages (sometimes more for longer works) in order to feel like I've "read" it and am able to count it as done.
