Though ang pinaka-dragging na chapter for me ay yung tempest within a mind(?) na chapter. I like the historical scenes kasi educational.:D
Yep yep. There are a lot massive info dumps scattered around. I try my hardest not to skim over those and skip to the more quiet character moments. But what can you expect? It's a historical fiction. pero at least hindi siya kasing lala nung sa The Historian. (Sorry, Monique!)

PARANG NANTI-TSISMIS LANG TALAGA hahaha. :D
Bennard wrote: "Though ang pinaka-dragging na chapter for me ay yung tempest within a mind(?) na chapter. "Ay, boo! That was one of my favorite scenes so far. Yes, paikot-ikot siya but isn't it the exact way we think when faced a great dilemma? Boo, Bennard. :P
Hugo has a real knack for fleshing out his characters.
And in fairness, the way Hugo writes some reflections about the society of France in the book, mapapaisip ka talaga. I mean, laws are made to create order, yes, but with the poverty in the middle of it, yung mga tao mapapagawa talaga ng krimen eh. Either you live out the poverty or you just die from it, or you suffer. Sobra lang. AKO NA, AKO NA NADADALA! *ella creys
Though ang pinaka-dragging na chapter for me ay yung tempest within a mind(?) na chapter. I like the historical scenes kasi educational.:D Really? Haha yung A Tempest Within a Brain pa naman ang pinaka-gusto ko at pinaka-enlightening chapter so far. Hanep yung description nung inner dialogue and moral dilemma ni Jean Valjean, it gave the man's character weight, you can actually hear him think and feel his indecision, and you can hear yourself say 'yes, that's true' to every point raised, kasi its very real and that's how we also struggle inwardly, pero less clearly and not as vastly. It proves the point that Hugo raised at the start of the chapter (also my favorite quote): there is one spectacle greater than the sea or the sky: that is the interior of the soul.
Pero I also struggled reading the Waterloo part haha
On a lighter note, this might prove as an incentive to some to read further (I'm already at page 900 St Denis Book 3), there's a very interesting chapter detailing a man's attempt to stalk (or in Patrick's term 'keeping track') 19th Century style :) And as some of you know, Hugo is a french romantic, and in the 'romantic' lines ahead, he champions 'love at first sight' or 'The Glance' (not really a spoiler but since it comes at a later part of the novel, hence the tag):

Whaaat? Page 900 ka na, JL? I should stop all mindless browsing. To everyone who's going to watch, siguro manonood na rin ako kahit hindi ko pa tapos yung book. :D
Angus: Si JL career sa pagbasa nung New Year, habang tayo ay iba iba pa ang binabasa. :D We're roughly at the same part, Angus, so may karamay ka.
Not because it's boring ha! Ang liit kasi nung font D:
January 9 premiere nito, right? (Haha Life of Pi nakalimutan ko na lol) n
M. Myriel visited a conventionist and he seems like a bad person. What is conventionist exactly? A person who attends a convention? Haha google is no help (hope this question doesn't sound dumb or something) thank you
If it's showing on the 16th, when are we watching? And where? 19th is the F2F13 discussion.*paging events planner Tina*
(please please please please DO NOT COMPROMISE my accounting duties on the movie watching. please. i love you all bow)
Tricia wrote: "M. Myriel visited a conventionist and he seems like a bad person. What is conventionist exactly? A person who attends a convention? Haha google is no help (hope this question doesn't sound dumb or ..."I have the same question! :)) But I didn't take time to search further on the exact definition. I just settled with my own perception that a conventionist might be someone who opposed the present leadership or a part of a faction against the government.
3 years old or 10 months?
3 years old or 10 months? "She was 2 years old na when that oaf Tholomyes abandoned her and Fantine. I also got confused there because I thought by "she had his child" Hugo meant "she was pregnant," but I researched for a timeline of the first part of the book and apparently, she was born in 1815, same year as Waterloo, so there you go. Haha!

Ahhhhhh! Okay. Same tayo ng interpretation dun sa "she had his child", akala ko pregnant lang basta.
But then may part pa sa Fantine Book 4 Chapter 1 na sinabing "Ten months had slipped by since the "good joke"." So, I assumed na 10 months after yung incident na yun.
Thanks for the clarification!:)
Conventionist info under the cut:(view spoiler)
Naiirita ka kasi he's trying hard to be a historian and a statistician pero deep inside parang sinasabi nya na "kailangan mo itong malaman para maintindihan mo sinasabi ko."
(Okay ella. Stop trolling. OA na)
I have a question though. If 1815 is the war and (view spoiler)
Just made it through the Book1 of the second volume. Hay! Simulan na. :)
Tricia wrote: "HI I JUST MET JEAN VALJEAN. GINANAHAN NA AKO YAY"Hahaha. Ang theme song kasi sa Les Mis book: I won't give up on us | Even if France gets rough. #Sabaw
Hahahaha!
ANYWAY, at least I have progress. Book 2 na. Naawa naman ako kay Jean Valjean hahaha
Enjolras finally appeared, and sakto, when I went online in Tumblr, I saw this:
woo inspiration k that's all
Tricia wrote: "HI I JUST MET JEAN VALJEAN. GINANAHAN NA AKO YAY"Hahaha I had the same reaction when he came in -- parang, finally.
Blue and Aenna: Okay pareho tayo ng naisip about kay Cosette!
On that note: I'm sorta close to finishing Fantine! Yay. :)
THESIS.
I've just finished Les Miserables last night.I would just like to say, this is really one of the most magnificent books I've read, and magnificent in so many ways. To a certain degree, it compels you to agree, that:
"An awakening of conscience is greatness of soul."
and that,
"It is nothing to die; it is frightful not to live."
Sorry, I'm still savoring its epicness. I'm so ready for the movie :)
JL wrote: "I've just finished Les Miserables last night.I would just like to say, this is really one of the most magnificent books I've read, and magnificent in so many ways. To a certain degree, it compels..."
CONGRATULATIONS JL! I am proud~~~ :D
I shall try to make habol. Nakakainspire ka naman.
dun dun dun DONE!Excellent for a first book finished this year!
Memorable characters and beautiful passages. It was a powerful novel in so many ways.
My only complaint could be that it had lengthy expositions which I particularly dislike when I'm reading fantasy novels. Figured it's historical fantasy and I should've expected something like that. But I can overlook that if only for those brilliant character moments.
And I can finally say, I survive Les Miserable's 1,400+ pages! I feel like I can survive reading anything -- except 1,400 pages of dreadful book, that is.
So I had a massive Les Mis hangover last night and watched both the 10th(for the second time, we had this at music class but I slept the entire duration of it.) and 25th Anniversary concert. I don't believe my emotions have been this abused before, especially when the original Jean Valjean showed up and sing Bring Him Home with three other Jean Valjean at the end of the 25th anniv concert. Completely lost it.My body is so ready for
I've been trying to get over this but I can't, so I'll keep coming back here to
*support vibes*
Sabi ni Confucius, "It does not matter how slow you go, so long as you do not stop." (source: Tumblr Customize Page) Kahit sobrang hassle dalhin everywhere kasi ang bigat, go pa rin, guys! Sobrang worth it :) This is one of the most beautiful books I have ever read.
In other news..
LES MIS TODAY. FINALLY.
Just got to p 469 (see status update!), aaaand yay that means less than a thousand pages left! :D Next status update will be when I reach halfway (around 300-ish pages to go). Haha :D
Manonood tayo after F2F13 right?? Final na yan? I don't think I have the strength to watch it alone. :(

OO BENNARD, VERY TRUE
There are times na maiinis ako sa isang chapter kasi andami nyang sinasabi. Though we have to understand that it is also a story of the setting, kaya pati significance ng mga kalugaran kung saan-saan nilalagay nya.
