Beautiful Disaster

Did I read the same book?...

I was not mortified when they got married, but rather relieved that it could finally end. By the end of the book I was sick of the games as well.

Jenn wrote: "I read all of these great reviews for Beautiful Disaster and I just didn't feel it. I thought there were way to many games... Abby is stupid and Travis is violent... Thanks!
I got the book based on all the rave reviews, but after getting about halfway through, I gave up.I couldn't make myself care about the characters enough to finish it. I'm older, so I thought perhaps maybe I just wasn't able to empathize enough with what was going on in the lives of these young characters.
I'm way past trying to understand all Abby's drama and angst, and Travis was just a....disaster..not particularly beautiful at all.
HAHA! I'm so glad I'm not alone! I couldn't help but to think that the publishers were a little foolish limiting their audience. Think about it... their crowd is basically 18-20..... I'm 23 and I felt OLD in this book! HAHA

I absolutely agree! I was disappointed with all of the positive reviews. I kept wondering if I was reading the same book. I did not enjoy this book at all.

Another one here who agrees with all of you. I think it is for a younger audience... I am 26, and I know most girls in her teens looove 'bad boys'... which in this book at least, was not appealing to me. And don't let me start describing Abby... I found her kind of obnoxious. And it seems there is going to be a movie! Oh my...
Good lord... Let's just say I won't be seeing that one!! Abby was so clingy and kept playing the victim....Riiiiiite

Ohh absolutely. So glad to see I'm not the only one who feels this way. I found it vaguely horrifying. The possessiveness and melodrama was way, way over the top.

You just wanted to scream... GROW UP!!! The only thing that could have been worse... if they reproduced... Thank God for birth control

Oh no absolutely not I had read so many great reviews especially how Travis was swoon worthy but like you I sorta hated the pair of them Travis was violent and possess and Abby so hypocritical that she judged travis but was happy to sleep in his bed whilst dating someone. So as a book it is definately not one of my favourites but meh i suppose it shows the incomprehensible side to love seeing past flaws blah blah blahBy the way, was anyone one else Super annoyed that abbys tattoo was mrs maddox? It seemed so childish and it was like Travis branded her if she got his name it would have been better imo >:(
Jenn wrote: "I read all of these great reviews for Beautiful Disaster and I just didn't feel it. I thought there were way to many games... Abby is stupid and Travis is violent... Anyone else get the same vibe? ..."Agree Agree - not worth reading the follow on book either
I agree, there was definitely a few redeeming qualities about this book but I don't understand what all the rave was about either. The games started out cute at first, as well as the friendship between she and Trav...but then it got a little wierd and tiresome. When the whole marriage thing happened, I felt like it was a little too fast!

Not every book will appeal to everyone. I'm 41 (so I guess I'm old to you guys in this thread), but I loved BD. It is one of my favorite books of all time. Sometimes stories just resonate during a certain point in life. My theory on why there is so many of us who love this book is that it is a college version of 50 Shades of Grey, in some ways. The crowd who loves 50 Shades, seems to love this book as well. If you haven't read 50 Shades, then you may not be in the midset to read about a girl who can mean something to a man who has never cared about women that way before. It's a fantasy to be the ultimate "everything" to a man you care for.I can totally see Jenn's POV. I absolutely HATE the book Bared to You and every other 50 Shades of Grey lover, seems to just drool over Bared to You and I don't get it.
My mom accidently bought this novel for me and I HATED IT. I was struck down by the amount of people who loved it! I see no appeal behind the characters, the writing style is so poor. Ugh I felt like the only person in the world who disliked this novel.I also cannot believe that there will be a movie. Someone is paying good money to bring this terrible story to life!!
I'm nineteen and get the bad boy appeal but Travis is revolting - He is not a bad boy he is just a creep.
"...is a college version of 50 Shades of Grey, in some ways. The crowd who loves 50 Shades, seems to love this book as well. "I don't agree with this... I LOVE Fifty, but it was a more mature possession, I felt that BD was an immature triangle of love games.
Fifty would do anything to keep danger of all kinds away from Ana, but Travis tried to pull her back into the Hell that she left behind. (Vegas)... etc. etc.

I did not care for it either. I can handle a dysfunctional relationship, messed up people, etc... but it has to be written well. This was just hard to read at points. I actually liked the dysfunction, it reminded me of Wuthering Heights, well except Wuthering Heights was well-written =) I do like that Travis was a fighter and the poker past for Abby was interesting but...ya a 'blah' for me too overall.

Abby drove me absolutely crazy with the back and forth. I tried to rationalize that it's because she's a teenager but seriously I wanted to slap her. I can almost see how Travis is swoonworthy. He's the bad boy that fell hard and changed his man hoar ways but his violent tendancies were scary and really he was like a puppy following her everywhere....

The writing was good so that was never the problem but felt they were portrayed as rather immature characters for my tastes.
I have added the sequel to my TBR list so I may buy it on a whim if it is free or cheap.
Sorry you all had such bad experience with this book! BUT I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!! AND Pre-ordered Walking disaster!

I, too, was left to ponder how so many people loved this book. And ummm...let's talk TYPOs. Page after page of typos....IT.MADE.ME.CRAZY!It all felt so immature and ridiculous.

And here I thought I was the only person on GR who didn't like this book. LOL
It's nice to know that I'm not alone. I attempted to read this book a few times, and each time I did I ended up not liking the characters even more than I did during the previous attempt. I just didn't find Travis' behavior endearing or sexy at all. He was violent and at times a bully. And I won't even get started on what i thought of Abby.
And just so we're clear, I respect everyone's opinion. If you loved the book, great. There were just too many things about the story that kept me from enjoying it.
Thank God...I thought I was all alone. What a disaster indeed! Only one worst recently for me was

. And sadly I have downloaded it's followup! Going to need quite a while and desperate for reading material before I open it! ;)

I can see why Travis is attractive in a bad way but nothing can change that they were absolutely wrong for each other.

You know, I saw HEA everywhere and have been wondering what that meant! I'm so out of the loop. I didnt know what YOLO was until the craze was over, lol

Me too! (Or maybe I should write IKR xD) http://www.urbandictionary.com is a lifesaver. Btw, I never heard YOLO before now. Lol!

I am glad other people have said this . . . I hated this book too . . I think it is the only book I have ever given no stars too! . . . .There was so much wrong with this book I don't know where to start . . .but I can also see why people like it unfortunately . . . I really hope it doesn't make it to film :-(

Still can't figure this one out...? ;)"
YOLO- You Only Live Once!
lol:)
I do not reviews before I read a book, because we will agree to disagree on something. Was the whole book bad, no, was the action of the college kids bad yes!!Please try not to trash the author if you do not like this or any book.
I think the author's behavior with regards to negative reviews of the book made her fair game for trash talking.

I'm sixteen and I do not agree that a younger audience will connect with it. I felt their relationship was borderline abusive, because Travis was so manipulative and controlling. And holy crap, the book itself was so God awful.

Hannah wrote: "I think the author's behavior with regards to negative reviews of the book made her fair game for trash talking."And I totally agree to this. If you're going to put yourself out there, you have to be prepared for criticisms.

I have to say, I hadn't heard either good or bad reviews when I got this book, I ordered both because i'm a HUGE fan of one book from one persons perspective, and another from another's perspective. Same with Midnight Sun, from the Twilight series it was soooooo much better than Twilight, even with all of the typos and stuff. I just like the different insight into what the other person in a relationship is feeling at any given time. So all that being said, I liked the book very much, however I do agree that Travis was VERY aggressive, but he never once hurt a girl, never took his anger out on female, he does need anger management classes. Abby is a little to manipulative for me, she needed to make up her mind and STICK the F#*k with it. But I liked the story and with the books I've read the man is most often very possessive of his girl/mate, so this was nothing new to me.
And I once heard a saying and it stuck with my as a little out there but very true all the same. There are all different levels of crazy in every person, some more so than others. Your goal in picking your life partner is to find the RIGHT kind of crazy to fit YOU!!
Jenn wrote: "I read all of these great reviews for Beautiful Disaster and I just didn't feel it. I thought there were way to many games... Abby is stupid and Travis is violent... Anyone else get the same vibe? ..."Phew... Glad to see I wasn't the only one who had these same thoughts running through my head as I read this book! The ratings on this one just don't make sense to me, I cringe to think about their future together...!
Jenn wrote: "You just wanted to scream... GROW UP!!! The only thing that could have been worse... if they reproduced... Thank God for birth control"It was implied in the epilogue that she was pregnant in the end... I barfed in my mouth a little when I read it. Fucking. Twilight.
Jenn wrote: "What happened with the author? I was unaware that she was under fire and vice versa..."Nether did I! I want to know! What she just bashed people who gave her bad reviews? Not everyone will like your work. I was a total fan girl at one point. I wanted to marry Travis the whole 9, now looking back a year later and reading that train wreck of Walking Diaster I must say the book did lose it's original appeal but also I don't HATE the book.
Jenn wrote: "You just wanted to scream... GROW UP!!! The only thing that could have been worse... if they reproduced...
