Megan | 6 comments I don't remember much about this book, but this description probably contains spoilers. It was definitely adult fiction/romance (not like a Harlequin romance novel or anything though) chick lit and not YA. I think the cover had a lot of blue on it and possibly a beach scene. The main thing I remember about it was the main character's sister was a nun. At some point in the book it was revealed that when the nun was a teenager, she had gotten pregnant (possibly by someone who is a priest where she does her nunning now?) and kept it a secret. She delivered on the beach and I distinctly remember the mention of afterbirth or placenta. She may have thrown it into the ocean, but I'm more inclined to think it was still attached to the baby, although maybe hidden under something? I think the girl who gave birth or the sister who's the main character found it and their parents may have adopted it? I'm not 100% sure on that part though.

I read this in the late 90s or possibly early 2000s. Thanks in advance!

Well, the cover of What Matters Most: A Novel seems to match, and it's about a nun who abandoned her baby, but I haven't read it so can't speak to the details.

Megan | 6 comments I don't think that's it :( It was published a few years too late, but it's almost similar enough to make me second guess myself. But it's not that or the prequel. Thank you so much for the input!!!

Yeah, I thought the pub date was off, but the cover was so close to what you described I figured it was worth a shot. Oh well, I'll keep poking around and will let you know if anything else turns up.

This might be it...a newborn baby found on a beach, with the afterbirth still attached. Found by a young girl whose family adopts the baby. Published in 2000, and one of the goodreads reviews mentioned a nun.

I think this is it! I haven't been able to find a thorough enough review to be sure, but this alternate cover looks more like what I remember!

Thank you so much! I think I'm going to order it to see if it's the right one :D

No response but I agree with Andria after reading reviews. Moving to Solved.
