Where are you from
I came all the way from Manila, Philippines. I hope someone from this part of the country is here, too! :)
I'm from Toronto, Canada =)AennA wrote: "I came all the way from Manila, Philippines. I hope someone from this part of the country is here, too! :)"
Nice! My parents are from there (which I guess doesn't count in this case, but it's something!) =)
Jennifer W wrote: "I live near Ithaca, NY. In the middle of the Finger Lakes! I love how beautiful this area is!"Where The Human Comedy was set!
I'm having trouble keeping up with all these. Wouldn't it be cool if Goodreads offered a map, where we could all pin ourselves?
Pauline - I think that would be fun - at least within our groups... at least you can search people from your zipcode and area.
I'm from São Paulo - Brazil :)
I live in Nothern California. Tucked into the redwoods of what is called the Lost Coast of California
I was born in Corpus Christi, Texas. My family moved to southern California when I was six months old. We came out on the train, which probably contributes to my fascination with railroads. We lived in San Diego, and now Orange County. You can say I’m a native Californian.
Originally from Poland (Warsaw), currently (and for few months longer) I'm living in Central Jawa, Indonesia.

I think that would be a great thing to do.

I have lived in Wisconsin in the US all of my life. I now live in Brownsville Wisconsin. About an hour north of Milwaukee in "cow" country.
Becky - a girl after my own heart - I grew up in the Twin Cities, but my parents were from WI originally - Mom was born in Spooner and grew up in Chippewa Falls. Dad was from the Cumberland/Rice Lake area. (And I LOVE LOVE my cheese! - keep a WI Cheesehead in the cupboard at school for when my Kindergartners play Farmer in the Dell! LOL) My husband is from Illinois, but we've lived in No Dak, CA, MT and now NE.
Andrea I grew up on the east side a LONG time ago! A Johnson HS, Hamline and St Thomas girl. I still love the Cities and have family there.
I grew up in a small East Texas town, spent 12 years in Austin, and have been in Waco for the last 6.
Like Creolecat and Collin, I was born and raised in Texas. Never leaves your blood.

Born and raised in Miami, FL...but moved to Grayson, GA (35 miles NE of Atlanta) 3 years ago. Love it here.
I live in Galway, a colourful, seaside town on the west coast of Ireland. Summer visits us for about two days every year, but we don't complain (NOT!). In fact complaining about the weather is our national past-time :)http://www.galwaytourism.ie/pgalway-g...

I'm from Emu Plains Australia. I know that sounds corny but at least it is not Kangaroo Place Emu Plains!
Petra X wrote: "I'm from Wales but I live in the Caribbean on a small island where I have a bookshop."Can't get any more fabulous than that! How wonderful Petra!
It would be truly wonderful if people actually bought books but mostly they just come and look at my selection, say they will 'be back later' and order them from Amazon. I am Amazon's shopfront. I pay the rent, I pay the staff, I pay the electricity, I pay the local taxes and Amazon sells the book and gets the profit.I'm trying to think up a new business actually.

I am in southeastern Florida. A very short flight / boat ride to the Caribbean! Think book club :-)
Actually the island I live on is extremely difficult to get to. For me to get to Miami, I have to get a boat to another island, that's a couple of hours. Then a small plane down to Puerto Rico, then down to Miami. If I leave the house at 6.00 a.m. I can be in Miami for 5.30 pm (with luck).I'm very glad you have some indie bookshops doing well, that's very heartening. The first link didn't work, but the Vero Beach bookshop looked really lovely. My place is tiny compared to that, but then the population of the island is tiny compared to Vero Beach. Not many people live here. It is such a lovely place to live though and I must find another business. Not sure what yet though.

This is a fabulous small town book store with an online presence as well. What little island? Sounds charming......how about a book-mobile....take them to them! Curbside cupcakes are a gold mine right now.....frozen adult beverages or healthy fruit popcicles! accessory boutique...necklaces, earrings, bracelets, scarves, belts, lotsa sun hats, sunglasses? Artist nest.....for painters, supplies frames etc...with beautiful views you must get a lot of artists who need supplies! The list goes on and on in my mind!
After a few bad experiences online, one where I was actually stalked to the island, I prefer not to say exactly where I am. Thank you for your suggestions. This is not the sort of island you are thinking of though. We are quiet, private people on quite an upscale island. It is very difficult and quite expensive to get permission to work at anything on the island. Vendors are discouraged. The sort of artists who paint watercolours of the beaches etc. tend to gravitate towards islands with a lot of American tourists as they are the main market. In any case they would need permits. I'm a citizen so it's easy for me to live here but I still need permits.
I can't do online which I would love to do as I have a fabulous collection of Caribbean books and generally an unusual selection. But I'm not in the US and the mail in the islands is a joke. Takes between 8 days and two months to get a letter to London. If the small planes are too full to take the mail, they don't take it. Christmas cards are often delivered in February!
Petra there has to be some business out there waiting for you. I love my local book store. They offer a loyalty program and have an unusual way of displaying some of their books. I love the little personal reviews they offer near the books. Also they have a lot of retail items that have a literature theme e.g. cups, bags. I wouldn't be able to wait for Amazon if the mail was slow I need a book NOW once I have finished a book.

I hope you are enjoying Chandler! I just moved back to my hometown in Illinois after living in Chandler for 11 years! I love being close to family but am finished with this cold weather!! In Arizona, most of my shoes were clogs or sandals....they sure don't work here in the slushy, snowy, rainy midwest!!
