Honest Bleach I agree with you.

Child of Ilúvatar If you could turn off one of the Lord of the Rings films half way through I think it's safe to say you're probably not a fan of the fantasy genre. In which case, regardless of how good the book is, most likely you will not enjoy it.

However, it's neither long nor challenging, so if you're truly intrigued give it a go.

Marybeth i think if anyone wants to see the movie and read the book is amazing. the whole trilogy is so hard to read you really have to pay attention to what they are saying in the book. i think anyone who wants to read it should try it.

If you read fantasy and you have read a book and loved the characters I think you should check out The Hobbit whether at the library or however you can get it!

johanna (jo) What sort of question is this? Lol. Just read it! :)

J Douglas YES!!!!!

Nurlely For me LOTR is awesome and very well written. I love the series like crazy. LOTR is the top of my fave books.

My friend watched the movie (The Fellowship of the Ring) and was not impressed of it. She said that it was too long for her, while I was freaked out when I knew I had to wait another year for the second movie... hahaha

I can not say that you will like The Hobbit, but if you like to give it a try, I can say that The Hobbit is not as long and complicated as LOTR, and there are many things about the book that will make you laugh.
I was surprised that I laughed during my reading, which I could not recall doing as much while reading LOTR.

You might find The Hobbit entertain enough in addition to the awesome adventure.

J.S. Riddle The Hobbit, although it is a great start to Lord of the Rings, in my opinion is the best. It seems to be the most adventurous, fun, scary, entertaining book. It is a MUST read in my opinion and maybe when I was in school my literature teacher was a fan, but it was on the NECESSARY list and I can see why. Of course I read the Hobbit when I was much much younger, having picked it up probably ten time since I first read it.

Andrea Stoeckel Tolkin isn't everyone's cup of tea. I think the movies, which I haven't seen, may have spoiled the books for people. Also, trying to read the darn things when you are too young, or in (supposed) "order" could bog anyone down as the Silmarrilion (cobbled together by Tolkin's unfinished draft after he died), the suppossed prequel could turn anyone away.

Read the Hobbit. Wait a while until the trilogy. As for the movies....?
