Lover Unleashed by J.R. Ward
Finished:12/5
Rating:★★★

Items

Clothing: Tie-...the guy repositioned his bow tie. _ Disc 12, Track 14 (03:33)

Body Parts: Curly Hair- ...finding the soft curling hair at the base of his neck._ Disc 16, Track 14 (00:21)

Miscellaneous: Bike-...on his touring bike when he was hit by a drunk driver._ Disc 7, Track 1 (02:37)

Review
Lover Unleashed was a utter disappointment. The other books in the series had one main plot and several smaller ones that coincided with the with the main. This book was chaos. This book however, had four main plots:
#1. Vishous and his previously unknown sister, Payne, establishing a relation.
#2. The conflict between Vishous and his mate, Jane.
#3. The inner demons Qhuinn is dealing with over his decision he made not to be with his best friend, Blaylock.
#4. The murder of a girl.

It was just too much in one book. In my opinion, the author should have split the plots up, put two in one book and two in another.

I gave Lover Unleashed 3 stars but honestly it is probably only 2 and 1/2 stars. I felt guilty however because the The Black Dagger Brotherhood series is one of my favorites. So, I gave it an extra 1/2 star because I am sap.

Oops, I almost forgot...J.R. Ward had a strange affinity for the word "sh*tkickers". She uses the word A LOT in the book. Whatever happen to good old boots?

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Jennifer the BDB really went downhill the last few books. I still haven't read Tohr's book because of it. I finished mine too ill have my review up in just a bit.

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Tie Week, 1
Read: Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet (Charley Davidson, #4) by Darynda Jones by Darynda Jones
Finished: 12/5/12
Rating:★★★★☆
My Review:
4.5
This one was super funny it had me laughing the whole time. Charley is recovering from the incident that ended book 3. Shes broke, turned into a hermit, and suffering from PTSD. She gets a strange case and this finally gets her off her butt and out of her house. The demons are more organized and they make a strong campaign to get a hold of Charley. But don't worry cause Reyes is hot in their trail! Some pretty hot Reyes moments in this book. Can't wait for the next one!

message 108: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) Jennifer, I felt this was more Jane and V part 2 than a story about Payne and Manny. There just wasn't a connection to draw me into the couple. Probably because thier story wasn't strong. This book was more like a segue to broaden out the series to more characters.

message 109: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) The spread sheet has been updated to give you your point for tie.

message 110: by Jenne (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) Just saw that we got our point for tie! Great job guys! I can't wait for the next item to be announced on Friday :)

On another note, is anyone else having issues with not getting all of their notifications? It seems like the past few days, it's been hit or miss for me, especially in threads that I've posted in recently. It's weird!

Review:
A great read! This is my third Koontz book and I haven't been disappointed, yet. I would have never thought the words "fiddle broke" could break my heart and make me cry like a baby until this book. You must read this one and when you get to the point I am referring to, come back and let me know how you reacted. Koontz makes his characters come alive, you would think you knew them in real life. And the dog, Einstein, is one that I will never be able to forget.

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Bone Week:

I read The Bite Before Christmas (Argeneau, #15.5; Night Huntress, #6.5) by Lynsay Sands by Lynsay Sands
Finished: 12/10/12
Rating: ★★★★

Night Huntress story: ★★★★★
Bones has a surprise visitor for his birthday party. Turns out he's more than meets the eye and it's up to Cat,Denise & Ian to save Bones, Spade, Keira, & Mencheres. I've been saving this one for a rainy day when I needed a Cat & Bones fix and it didn't disappoint! Ian was hysterical as usual and Cat was brutal! And of course Bones was to die for.

Arganeau Story: ★★★

I've only read one of the books from this series and it's really not my cup of tea. I don't really care for the characters and the vamp world is a tad cheesy IMO. The romance scenes are pretty good though. In this one Teddy and Katricia are stranded due to snow storms. They're life mates as it turns out. Teddy takes the news better than expected but Katricia was just too forward IMO.

Items Claimed:
Lightning:
abrupt as a lightning bolt KL# 3337
Belt:dirk sticking out of his belt completed the image KL#1881
Bone: skin stretched tight over muscle and bone Kl# 1097
Cake: well that was just icing on the cake KL#2884

message 126: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H Yeah Jenne!

I love the Night Huntress Series...I haven't read any of the anthology stories because they rarely have anthologies at the library.

message 127: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) It's only .99 or a 1.99 on amazon right now :)

message 128: by Jenne (new)

message 129: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (lovebeingvegan) I'm going to start it today and should have it finished by Thurs night (I would have started it sooner, only I have to finish a different book for a blog tour).

message 130: by Jenne (new)

What exactly is a blog tour? Sounds interesting.

message 132: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (lovebeingvegan) Basically, it is just where different blogs all post about the same book during a set time - could be a book spotlight, review, or something else. For this tour, I am doing a review and my date it today. Thankfully I just finished it a little while ago and will post soon. :)

BTW, the book I just finished will work for this week, so I decided to use that one instead - will post my review/items soon. :)

Melanie (lovebeingvegan) Week two - Bone

Every Perfect Gift by Dorothy Love

I read: Every Perfect Gift by Dorothy Love
Finished 12/12/2012
Rating: 4 stars
My review:

Every Perfect Gift was a great addition to the Hickory Ridge series! I'm a little sad that this is the final book, but except for wishing some things had ended differently, it was a good conclusion.

I loved both of the main characters (Ethan and Sophie) and how previous characters (including Ada and Carrie) appeared in Every Perfect Gift - it was great to get updates on their lives.

The story was very good and I liked it from the beginning on! There were a couple surprises and some romance - overall a great read that I really enjoyed! If you like historical romances, then I think you'd like Every Perfect Gift. While I don't think it's entirely necessary to read Beyond All Measure and Beauty for Ashes first, you'd probably want to because then you'd know the history of Hickory Ridge, Tennessee. :)

*I received a complimentary copy of this book for my review. I was not required to give a positive review, only my honest opinion - which I've done. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.*

Items claimed:
Bone: "...the bullet had shattered bone and lacerated his flesh." Page 220
Mist/Fog: "His lips claimed hers, and all caution dissipated like mountain fog." Page 165
Boots: "She unlaced her muddy boots and set them beside the fire." Page 180
Paper: "“I can do it for less if you want flimsy paper, but I wouldn't recommend it." Page 43

message 134: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Good job Melanie! We have all of the reviews for bone in. I'm not going to request the point yet though till Sam reviews and I can put her other 3 items on there. I think it would be easier on Dawn just to wait. I wonder what will get called tomorrow. Hopefully our team can go 4 for 4 next week!

message 135: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H Thanks Melanie for the info!

message 136: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (lovebeingvegan) You're welcome, Jennifer. :)

message 137: by Sam (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) Sorry for being so slow this week, guys! I realized I needed ONE book to finish another challenge before Saturday, so the book I'd planned on reading kind of took the back burner. Luckily though, the book I needed for the other challenge also works, and I should be finished with it today :)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) Week two: Bone

Enclave - Ann Aguirre
Finished: 13/12/2012
Rating: 2.5/5

Review:

Honestly, I'm not 100% sure how I feel about this book. The writing felt very juvenile in some places, even for a YA novel. It almost felt like two different authors wrote the first part and the second part. I found the beginning to be very rushed, the pacing was a bit off-putting, and the story was a bit forced. However, things really improved in the second part. There was more action and tension, the pacing moved a lot more smoothly, and it just seemed to be better written overall. It definitely wasn't my favorite of the YA dystopia novels I've read this year, but it was still intriguing enough for me to want to read the next book in the series.

Items to claim:
Bone: "There were no Freak bodies, not even bones..." (pg. 123)
Shelf: "Metal shelves - we'd scavenged a few like that over the years - stood mostly empty." (pg. 131)
Glasses: "Sunglasses. There were a few left on the floor downstairs." (pg. 137)
Snow: "You should do it before the snow gets any deeper..." (pg. 219)

I hope that the sunglasses work for glasses!

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Great Job! And yes sunglasses will work for glasses. I just put the request for our bone point in!
