There goes my hero...

Of course there's my parents and my sister who I look up to, because I love them and they're responsible and smart and successful and all of that, and there's no one I'd rather be like.
But really, I kind of requested this topic be made because I really look up to one of my sister's friends. His dad died unexpectedly of a heart attack in the middle of the night (he was only 46), and they found out the morning that he was going to go to Disneyland with my sister and the rest of their friends. Needless to say, he didn't show up. He has one older brother, who's in college in New York, and he was studying abroad in Rome so he couldn't come home right away, and it was just him and his mom. He's a senior this year. I can't imagine how hard it is. His dad will never see him graduate, or get married, or any of that. But he showed up to school the day after, and he didn't miss a single day. He spoke at his dad's funeral. He smiles and pretends to be okay for his friends' sake, but even I can tell it's not completely genuine. But he's a such a strong person, and I admire that so much, because I know that I wouldn't be able to react that well in that situation.

Wow, that is pretty amazing. I don't even know what I would do in his situation, but I know I wouldn't be as strong as he was, as strong as he still is. I'm sure his dad would be proud of him.
My sincerest condolences to him and his family though, that is just so sad! :'(

It is. And he and his family... they are like, the nicest people you'll ever meet. His mom works at our school, and she only took a short bit off. She was back really shortly after, and she just told everyone not to treat her differently. I feel bad that I haven't visited yet, but I don't know where her office is.

Let us start from least to most admired-- my heroes.
First,
Her name is Myranda Pearson, she has been my friend since I was in fifth grade, and even though we didn't know each other we lived and were very close. Sounds complicated, right? Well it was. She is the type of girl who everyone wants to be, the girl everyone wants to hang out with. She's sweet, she listens, gives her opinion, has the mind, talks, everything about her was so perfect. She cares about everyone, and everyone cares about her. She and I could never be separated, no matter how hard you tried, we were basically sisters.
She met me in fourth grade, just a casual hi and a smile. She was the girl every boy in the class thought was beautiful, smart, perfect. I thought she was amazing, I didn't know what jealous was then but I knew I wanted to be her friend. I was an outsider, I grew up that way. I was the one and only tom-girl in my grade, boys were my only friends. I would play in the dirt, make mud pies, eat ants as a dare, punch someone, etc. No matter how much I tried to fit in with the girls-- they pushed me away.
So boys I stayed with, and they were loyal, fun, they taught me what it was like to have a friend and what to do when I had a boyfriend. Myranda brought me into her world, I learned slowly how to be a girly-girl and I never left her, we became instant best friends.
Second,
Mykayla Brown is the girl who I want to be like, she is so smart and her mind is so open. I would never have been interested into books/writing/imagination if it weren't for her, ever since my heart was broken and people left me we met and I learned to be like her-- and man, it was amazing. I had no worries, I didn't care what other people thought, I would dance as if I were the only person in the room, I would laugh like my voice inaudible, I would break and knock over things like they were my own. I aced tests, I spent more time on the computer, I began to let my feelings flow with writing, I read and noticed I wasn't the only one. She brought me to reality, she knows what to say in even the worst of times, she knows how to make me laugh and even make me cry. She is one of the best people I have ever met.
Third,
My dad, my one and only father is my hero.
He has always been there for my mother, they broke up so many times. And she called him up one night in Georgia, crying that she needed my dad and that she loved him. She pleaded for him to come get her, that no matter how much she ran she couldn't fight the fact that her father had raped her. She begged my father for forgiveness, that they start over together and begin a family in happiness.
And so they did. It was slow, it was a painful start at that. They got married and had my eldest brother Bradley, they took it quicker and had me two years later, after a fun and happy four to five years they had my youngest brother Spencer. My father left his life career to be with my mother, he went to the army. Getting married wasn't the most easiest. He had to work jobs all night, at Wendy's, as a mailman, in the army, and a cleaning business. Like I said, they went slow. We got a rusty old house on a street, not the worst but not the best.
We lived there till I was ten and we moved here; at one of the best neighbors. My dad working for twenty years straight had a stroke. He had to quit his cleaning business, and had to take breaks from work more often, and more insanely he had to cut down on the army. He is now at the college and in a couple years will be a teacher, he will get his retire money, a ton from the mail, a bunch from the army, and will be teaching to pass the time with my grandchildren. I know he doesn't seem like it but he everyday is around people he hates, and he has been working forever for this family. I don't think I'd have the power to do all of that, to stay so loyal. I just love him to death.

usually along these lines:
"There goes my hero... used to be amazing, but now... *sigh*"
I think of that one song My Hero, by the Foo Fighters. "THERE GOES MY HE-RO, WATCH HIM AS HE GOES."
Another hero of mine -- my friend Shelby. She has a severe health condition (I'm not entirely sure what it is) and it affects her breathing. It's not asthma, so don't ask me that. She's constantly coughing and she has to go into the hospital every other week to be treated. One of her closest friends just passed away, from some disease, and she's spent countless lunches crying and she tries to hide her tears from us which hurts a little bit because I want her to trust us, but she just wants to pretend everything is okay and one of her other friends, Dalton, a boy who's only nine, is dying and likely won't make it to Christmas. And she went through an anorexia phase because her ex-boyfriend was constantly insulting her on her appearance, but she was able to snap herself out of it after realizing it wasn't worth it. So she's my hero.
@Kat, Wow, that's incredible. What a strong girl, she does sound like an admirable character.
@Rach, Awwww, sweetheart! I'm just glad I could help you out, you know so many people don't realize they can have a huge positive influence if you can have on somebody, and... oh look at me, I've begun some rambling speech! Well Rachel, what I'm trying to say is that it's my pleasure to be able to help you. And it's awesome that you have Josh, I know you two are really good for each other! :3

Yeah, not only that, but she's basically the mom of the family. She has an older brother, but he has a job and is involved with sports at our school, and so she like cooks and stuff for herself and her brother and her little toddler brother, too. Her mom would but she has to work because the fee for all her medical stuff is her mom's yearly income. So her parents are rarely home and she really only sees them on weekends. And then, she has to go to charity events with her parents and be their trophy child. Because her dad is like VP of some division of Coca-Cola.

When I was younger my parents were always my heroes, I guess. And as I got a little older there were different people I respected for different reasons, but none of them struck me as role-model worthy.
I can't really say I have any one particular "role model" or "hero".. except maybe Link from the LOZ game series. He is- and always will be- my hero, and one true love. IF ONE DAY they invent a machine that can bring video-games to life... well, let's just say wedding bells will be ringing.
Sorry, that was random. XD

@Chey Chey, HA! Awesome.
@Nemp, Thanks for asking! My hero is probably John Green. Not only is he an amazing author, but he's just a great person as well. His morals make sense, you know? And he knows how to put things together so beautifully, but still in a way that makes them perfectly understandable. He's my hero because he's everything I could hope to be someday- a successful author, as well as an awesome human being.

As far as like, celebrity role-models, I'd have to say mine are definitely John Green (for reasons similar to Ri's), and then Darren Criss--I mean, I really respect him because it's no secret that the guy's got an incredible amount of talent, but he also comes from humble starts... I mean, a musical theater company from Michigan? Yeah, StarKid ended up internet-famous, but still, you've got to admit that's generally pretty rare, because Michigan isn't exactly considered the most exciting place and stuff. But like, even though he's on Glee and stuff, he still shows up to some of the StarKid concerts--heck, he crashed a few of them. And like, the dude flew to the Inauguration in business class. Nothing wrong with that, of course, but you'd think most people, in his position, would sit first class. And I dunno--he's just pretty inspiring and all. Some of the things he's said, and then his music was the first music I've ever really connected with.
I was thinking of buying The Fault in our Stars yesterday but ended up buying The Friday Society at Barnes and Nobles instead... Now I want to go back and get a John Green book...

That is awesome Ri. I completely agree with what you said about him.

Remember: Don't hate, appreciate!
(No idea why I just said that, but I felt like saying it, and somehow found this a good opportunity.)
