How fabulous is the barcode scanning. I had started manually adding books only to discover this part of the app this morning. I have found a new addiction.

I haven't got that sort of phone Kathy, but my son has, and when he was showing me how it works, I was fascinated! What a great idea:)
I haven't got one of those phone either but I've heard about it through friends on GR. It's a wonderful device :)
It's so easy as it scans, it places the books straight into my read shelf as I rarely buy actual books anymore, only eBooks. I like to kid myself that my eyes are just fine as the font is getting larger and larger. I just have to work out how to get my eBooks across without manually adding them.
I love using the scanner too - more so on books in bookstores than on books I own. It's so handy to just scan it and bring up all the info.
I know, I don't purchase paper books that much anymore mainly eBooks. I can only imagaine how fun it would be to scan all the books for your books to read for shelf.
I fancied adding my list of books to the GR system, so I downloaded an app and started scanning – it was a bit of hit & miss but I did about 15 books and then thought I’d try and add them to GR. This is when I found out I’d downloaded the wrong app! All I managed to do was create a large single barcode with all my books listed! Back to the drawing board and found the correct app via GR and downloaded the same books – but I must admit the GR app worked a lot better (recognising the bar codes even when old and a bit scratched) much better than the first bar code reader. Downloaded the same books again and very happy with the speed of the bar code reading and the dumping of the info to my GD list. I inadvertently ‘dumped’ some info that I’d already posted, but the system didn't cause a problem re duplication, and all went well. Very pleased with this app – so congratulations GR! My only grouch is that scanning (twice) and fixing scanners etc has used the whole time I’d set aside to write!
Well done Geoff...it's an exciting new concept! And it sounds like no sleeping for you tonight, while you catch up with that writing;)

Android. Haven't had much time to play with it yet!!
The Goodreads App is one of the first things I downloaded onto my new iPad :-) I really like the scan function too, except that many of my old books don't seem to be on the database. As for the rest of the app I have to admit I don't really use it, I prefer to go to the GR site via the browser as I'm so used to how it looks and prefer it. The app doesn't seem to display all the info especially when in the groups. So I just switch between the two!
That's funny, Amber - you're the opposite of me - I signed up to Goodreads a few years ago but never used the site much until I found the app which "helps" me "manage" my TBR list (although actually my TBR list has grown exponentially since discovering the app!) & allows me to check what's on my TBR when I'm at the library or buying books. I find it's also easy to add books, even if the barcode isn't recognised - typing in the name of books is easy enough - hence the explosion in my TBR list! However the website is better for posting comments in groups, especially if needing to link books.
