JO Hey you fantasy lovers, why are you not into these books? Just curious because I loved Hunger Games and I am really loving the writing and strong female characters in these books. Yes they are YA and I am definitely not a YA, but I can't help it I think they are smart escapist fantasy novels and I have not seen anyone post anything about them. The topic is common but dealt with in a different way, the first book is Daughter of Smoke and Bone. I particularly love the friend zu

Jessica I really enjoyed the first one more than this one. It was so depressing. I agree, Zuzanna is great! Her silliness was definitely needed in this book.

Lennae Starr I can't wait for the last book but I agree, the first book was slightly better.

A box full of this book was left by a dumpster. I picked it up now I have 12 copies that I do not want to read.

Era Aquino As much as I don't want to admit, I'm kinda disappointed with the second installment Daughter of Smoke and Bones is waaaaay better than Days of Blood and Starlight. Still, I'll be waiting for the third and hoping it's as good as DSB!

Annie I loved this 2nd book, and am sooo waiting for #3....yes this 2nd book was dark, and heart breaking at times, but I loved it anyway, the writing was so unique and brilliant, and I appreciate that...No it did not go where I wanted it to, but it was still awesome....beautifully awesome....

Jessica Hey Giselle why don't you trade them on Swap.com or sell 'em on Amazon? Then at least you are getting something for all those copies!

I think #3 will be better, but it will be interesting to see how she wraps everything up.

I agree, and I like both of the books in the series so far. I like the intrigue and more realistic non-game like settings better than HG. Days of Blood and Starlight isn't as fun sounding as Hunger Games, and the romance has so many barriers. Also, there are a lot of non-humans around, so relating might take some adjustments. I think I can see some good plot twists ahead in the next book, and I'm looking forward to see how it evolves. Not light-hearted romance, but I like the ending.

message 9: by Kat (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kat I think both books are amazing, the whole concept is brilliant to me, and I actually loved the second book (more than the first imo), we got to see more characters (Zuzana made the book i loved her!) and it may sound weird but I liked that the books turned more dark, helped convey what everyone was going through, i definitely cannot wait to see how the story will end, hopefully not a romeo and juliet kinda deal that would be heartbreaking!!

Becky I loved Days of Blood and Starlight. Its not your typical 'and every one lives happily ever after.' Its actually got some realism about it, despite the fact that its about seraphim and chimera beating the bejesus out of each other. I like the character development, especially of Karou as she tries to work out who she really is and even Akiva and his siblings. I especially love Liraz's development as we get to know her better.

Debra Elsner I enjoyed the first book, but I put the second one down halfway through. I found it very disturbing and was not enjoying it at all.

message 12: by J (new) - rated it 3 stars

J Loved Daughter of Smoke & Bone---could not put it down, but not crazy about the sequel at all.

Diane Becky wrote: "I loved Days of Blood and Starlight. Its not your typical 'and every one lives happily ever after.' The characters are certainly deeper and more complex.

Jessica I ❤'d DoSaB. It was so different, so unique from anything else I have read. I was so excited to dive into DoBaS, but like some of you guys, I was left me sorta disappointed.

One, I was confused with all the mid-chapter character POV. I got POV whiplash with all the changing.

Two, while Karou was realistic with her reactions, she annoyed the crap out of my the ENTIRE book.

Things I Loved

One, Zuzanna, Zuzanna, Zuzanna. While you didn't fit with the main plot, you were a much needed comedy relief.

Two, the character developed. It was superb!!

Still looking forward to Book 3. Did you guess see released date 2014 too?? What happened to 2013??

Hannah I like these books a lot and I only heard about them through word of mouth so I went looking for them and was blown away. Cassandra Clare even voted for it in her top 10 books of the year. So ppl are talking about them :)

message 16: by Christina (new)

Christina I think I enjoyed this more than I enjoyed the other book? I'm not sure.

I'm glad Zuzanna got to play a more major role than in DoSaB because I loved her so much, and I'm really glad that we got to stay in the action the entire time, but there was just something not... quite right to me, with Karou's chapters? Maybe I just hate the White Wolf a lot, I was so sick of him by the end of it. I did like that she and Akiva didn't get a Disney!fix in this book, bc it seems like a lot of authors tend to go for that?

Janae I can totally agree, I love these books and you would think that I had learned by now not to judge a book by its cover, but I did and when I picked it up began reading it imagine my suprise of it being found to be so awesome. I friction loves it.
But between these books I can say I loves both but DBS had me holding my breath and crying at the intense scenes.
Yes and even Zuzanna was amazing! I love her character and the development in this book was amazing. Although I feel so sad for Ziri. I also enjoy love stories but this series has so much passion and action that even though I am rooting for them, I also want their world to find peace.
This is a great series and I hope everyone realizes that it may be one if the best yet.

Clare dooley Giselle wrote: "A box full of this book was left by a dumpster. I picked it up now I have 12 copies that I do not want to read."

JO hmmmmmm you got me thinking about the first book again and maybe I am having memory issues but I actually think I liked the second one better, maybe because it was darker and not as someone said all disney. I will admit Karou did bug me sometimes too but she was totally alone and freaked out and I was safe in my bed reading it. I like that she is not all strong and good all the time. Gotta say I was kinda shocked by that rape scene, not prudish shocked but just surprised to come upon it even though it made perfect sense. Guess I am just an not in touch with the young adults of today anymore so I thought of a young neice reading it, but hey that is a very realistic scene, if you take away the, well I was going to say magical aspect but both Karou and the white wolf are human in appearance. I do get sick of the love triangles, however, this one is a little different. I see Liraz and Ziri hooking up later in the series. All stories every written seem to come from Greek mythology. They were always having mistaken identity themes.

Laura Elizabeth Joni wrote: "hmmmmmm you got me thinking about the first book again and maybe I am having memory issues but I actually think I liked the second one better, maybe because it was darker and not as someone said al..."

I was thinking same thing about Liraz and Ziri too! They would be good together. Liraz needs a man!

fabby i just finish the sequel it was very frustrating and sad but that made it good cant wait for the book 3

Angela I was just wondering, what happened to Karou's wishes? Maybe I just missed something. Did she spent them all already?

Kristin LOVE this series.... I can't wait until the next book! I just despise how long some authors make us wait. The next book won't be released until April 2014. Ugh. Crossing my fingers it will be released sooner!

Kristin Becky wrote: "I loved Days of Blood and Starlight. Its not your typical 'and every one lives happily ever after.' Its actually got some realism about it, despite the fact that its about seraphim and chimera beat..."

I totally agree, especially about the character growth.

Jessica Angela wrote: "I was just wondering, what happened to Karou's wishes? Maybe I just missed something. Did she spent them all already?"

I thought she spent them at the end of the first book - it's how she got the power to fly.

Angela ^ Yeah but I've always thought she had other lower wishes like scuppies or lucknows she got from the other traders. She only used gavriels (is the spelling correct?) from Bain.
I wonder if some point in the next book she'll be desperate for a bruxis or something...

Becky Didn't she use them all trying to get back into the portal after Brimstone threw her out? I'm sure I remember something about her having used them all up out of desperation or something.

Sarah I had a really hard time getting into this book due to the dark, bleak and depressing nature of the first chunk. I would read a chapter and then set it down for a day. I liked it but watching Karou and Akiva struggle with their losses hurt. Then Zuzanna appeared and "woke up" Karou and I couldn't stop reading till I'd finished the whole book.

I have to wonder how close to grief Laini Taylor has been. It can take years to "recover" from a gut ripping loss like the only father you've ever known. Add in a healthy dose of blaming yourself along with the betrayal she feels from the love of her life(s) and Karou's actions make sense. I liked the realistic way it was dealt with, how she didn't just bounce back - she floundered and struggled and hid and generally just tried to cope.

Debra Lochridge I enjoyed both books immensely.
I love them for different reasons. It's not that I liked one over the other because I couldn't possibly choose. Each book has a different feel to it that stands alone from the other. To me, they just can't be compared.

I'll admit that I hard time at first getting through DoBaS because things weren't going my way...lol silly I know. I so badly wanted things to be different between you know who and I found myself setting the book down and picking up others. I had to be in the mind set to finish DoBaS and finally I was in it and man...it was an epic read.

Racheal Renwick I think they were both fantastic, and so much better written and structured than other, nameless, YA novels. (It's really more NA than anything.) And I hope no one disliked the second installment merely because there were no kissing scenes. I find story much more interesting than love scenes within it.

Jessica Angela wrote: "^ Yeah but I've always thought she had other lower wishes like scuppies or lucknows she got from the other traders. She only used gavriels (is the spelling correct?) from Bain.

I think Becky is right. I think Karou used up all her other wishes before she used the gavriels (spelling?) for flying. I don't think she has any other wishes left.

Clare dooley I loved both these books, to the point that I wanted to find L Taylor & demand the outline for the next book( validating the insanity that a plea of such would be understood by any court of law, make jurors read both before setancing, or worse case scenario they encourage people to read in jail)
Anyway I think Kristen is right, I despise half the authors I love, I want to send copies of this book to so many of my friends who won't read it for many of the above mentioned reasons

Clinton I liked the first one and loved the second one. Karou was somewhat annoying to me in this book because of the way she unfairly treated Akiva and how much whining and sulking she was doing. I also think there is an overabundance of rape scenes in YA these days. But other than that i have to say the second book was awesome and i cant wait for the next one.

Opal I loved the books. I especially loved Ziri in the second book. I can't wait for the third book and like Clare, I wanted to shake the third book out of Taylor until she produced it whole. I also loved Zuzana. She provided a ton of comic relief which I thought the second book needed.

Kat Andrade So sad and I mean what if YOUR true love killed a bunch of people out of revenge for you? I mean like that's beautiful tragic...

Maddie Tiare I absolutely love these books, and I try as hard as I can to get my friends to read them, but most of my friends don't like fantasy books. I wish the fandom was bigger, because these books are great and really deserve a wide readership.

Debra Lochridge Tiare wrote: "I absolutely love these books, and I try as hard as I can to get my friends to read them, but most of my friends don't like fantasy books. I wish the fandom was bigger, because these books are grea..."

Your friends are missing out! ;) Thats okay I try to force this book on other people too. Haha! It's amazing and definitely one of my all time favorites.

Laura Elizabeth Tiare wrote: "I absolutely love these books, and I try as hard as I can to get my friends to read them, but most of my friends don't like fantasy books. I wish the fandom was bigger, because these books are grea..."

I had better luck forcing it on my friends. They all loved it! My one friend said " Wow it's like Romeo and Juliet on crack!"

Mackay Joni wrote: "Hey you fantasy lovers, why are you not into these books? Just curious because I loved Hunger Games and I am really loving the writing and strong female characters in these books. Yes they are YA..."

Daughter of Smoke and Bone blew me away. So creative, so unusual, so straight to the heart. Superficially, Days of... doesn't have the impact. Until one thinks about it. It is an amazing portrayal of war ... of an individual's response to something so large and uncontrollable. And the way Taylor deepens the world, and shows how love is hard, is great work.

Teryl I loved, loved, loved both books. These are very clever, hip, fantastically well written, and such a unique premise. The characters are so vividly constructed...I'm sure they're out there walking around someplace. I totally fell into this world and can't wait to go back in Book 3!!!!

Because they're crazy!! These books are amazing.

Charlie I enjoyed the books and I bet once the 3rd one is out it will pick up. I try not read a series until they are all out but I missed that this one was not all published and disappointed that I have to wait until 2014 to find out what happens.
